About The Good Choice
Why did you create The Good Choice? What is your mission?
We created The Good Choice to help you shop smarter online, in less time, without having to pay a subscription. All our content is free and accessible to everyone.
Julien, the founder of The Good Choice, came up with this project after analyzing your Internet searches. He wanted to address a real need: to be supported in his online purchases, as we can be supported in store.
For more than 3 years, The Good Choice has been offering free advice and detailed guides to facilitate your online purchases.
We advise you on products tailored to your needs, we redirect you to the best options on the Canadian market and we simplify your choices by trying to answer all your questions so that you can make more informed purchases.
By doing all this research for you, we hope to save you a little time every day. And you know, time is precious!
Do brands and distributors pay you to put their products in your buying guides?
No. The products we recommend are solely from our editorial choices.
We proudly follow rigorous journalistic standards and ethics, maintaining our editorial independence from our commercial activities.
Our recommendations are made through research and comparison by teams of experienced editors and users.
Our recommendations are always made entirely by our editorial team, and our editors are never privy to business relationships.
The choices we offer are really the ones we think are best for most people, including ourselves!
So how does The Good Choice make money?
We earn commissions on the sales of certain products. We also plan to develop partnerships in line with our advertising policy.
If readers choose to purchase the products we recommend as a result of our research, analysis, interviews and comparisons, our work is often (but not always) supported by an affiliate commission from the retailer at the time of purchase.
If readers return their purchases because they are dissatisfied or the recommendation is poor, we receive no commission.
We have no incentive to choose inferior products or to respond to pressure from manufacturers – in fact, just the opposite.
We think it’s a fair enough system that keeps us committed to serving our readers first, while remaining objective.
Why trust us?
The products we recommend are the ones we would buy for ourselves, our family and our friends.
When we commit to offering you the best choice for a given product, we do so based on dozens of hours of research: analysis of appliance features, comparisons by consumer organizations, interviews with experts, collection of feedbacks and customer reviews.

About our content and website
How do you conduct your research and analysis to select the best products?
Our research is based on dozens of hours of analysis of the characteristics of the devices, comparisons made by consumer associations, interviews with experts and collection of testimonials and customer reviews.
We identify the themes that are important to you, based on the questions most frequently asked to search engines.
We “scan” all the products available on the Canadian market, we analyze each one of them in detail, we look at their specifications and all the technical information available.
We also look at existing product tests often conducted by consumer organizations or authority sites.
We read carefully the buyers reviews and feedbacks, and we also watch Youtube videos of use of the products in real conditions.
Believe us, we learn a lot that way!
Finally, from all these hours of research and reading, we make a selection to offer you the best products on the market according to the different needs of everyone.
Why don’t you test the products yourself?
We prefer to base our recommendations on multiple opinions (external testers, consumers) rather than on our sole judgment.
Whatever product we use, we all have different expectations, because we have different needs and tastes.
Rather than basing our recommendations solely on a test performed by one of our team members, in a specific context and usage (which may not represent the needs of everyone), we prefer to rely on tests performed by reference sites in their field, consumer associations, and finally you, the everyday consumers.
We also personally own some of the products in our selection, so we include our experience in the overall analysis.
What is The Good Choice ‘Top pick’ in buying guides?
We put what we think is best for most people, including ourselves and our loved ones, as our first choice!
We don’t look for the most feature-rich device, or the best design, or the smallest, or the cheapest. We choose the products that will best fit the daily life of Canadian people.
Most of the devices we choose here are not high-end models that are overpriced and loaded with unnecessary features; we aim to recommend items that are of sufficient quality to justify the price, but not items that cost more for extra features that you will rarely use.
These are the same devices we would recommend to our friends and family, and these are the same things we would choose for ourselves.
What do the Canadian Choice and Green Choice labels mean in the buying guides?
We want to make it easy for you to identify local products and services as well as products and brands that make a significant effort from an environmental point of view.
We try to accompany you so that you can limit your ecological impact while working hard to minimize ours. We believe that developing local commerce and favoring companies and brands that care about their ecological impact are major levers to help us meet this challenge.
Why are Amazon products always offered?
Amazon offers a very good customer experience and a wide selection of products. It’s hard to miss the world’s number one e-commerce platform, even if we are aware of what it represents in terms of ecology and global commerce.
Moreover, 35% of Canadian people mention making a monthly purchase on Amazon. We want it to be fast for you and making a purchase on a platform you are already a member of is much easier.
Does The Good Choice reference local products?
Yes, and we are working hard to add more Canadian sellers to our recommendations.
We also want to promote local products and companies more regularly in our content. For example, we want to regularly profile local companies that stand out for their products, services or environmental commitment.
