Table of Contents

Vacuuming is one of the most hated household chores – our pets hate the noise, we hate the monotony, and everyone deserves a better way.

If vacuuming your home multiple times a week is not how you want to spend your free time, it’s time to invest in a robot vacuum.

These smart, small devices can suck up all the dirt on your floors just as effectively as larger vacuums, but they’re much more convenient.

Robot vacuums work completely independently, drawing a map of your home to ensure they don’t miss a single inch while avoiding dangers like stairs and navigating around objects for an efficient clean.

If you’re interested in never sweeping your floors again, it’s time to choose a robot vacuum.

But how? There are many different brands, features, shapes and sizes, brushes, and technologies to choose from, so how can you know which one is best for your needs and floor type? Do you need one with mop technology included? How about drop sense technology? Maybe self-cleaning wouldn’t hurt either?

If you’re not sure about the answers to these questions, we can help!

We’ve prepared this guide about robot vacuums after 32 hours of research analyzing 24 products and 1253 reviews. Here are some of the best robot vacuums in Canada.

Following our last update, we recommend the Eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 11S for its effective cleaning capability, smart technology, and quality.

Robot vacuums have continued to improve since they first hit the market, and the Eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 11S is one of the best currently available. Priced reasonably and full of great features, there aren’t many reasons to hesitate unless you’re looking for some next-level features.

Eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 11S Video Review

What We Think of The Eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 11S

This Eufy robot vacuum is one of the top models on the market for a number of reasons. While it is a vacuum only model, it is compatible on nearly every surface, from hard floors up to medium-pile carpets. This is one of the quietest models on the market as well, so you can feel free to leave it running when you go to bed and trust that you won’t be disturbed. It has sensors to avoid collisions with objects and falling down stairs, but it is smart enough to climb onto carpets or over room barriers.

The battery life will be dependent on the type of surface it is working on since the required suction power will vary. If it is operating at max performance (1300 Pa) the battery can last for 50 minutes. On its lowest power on bare floors, it can last for up to 100 minutes. Once the battery is getting low, the robot vacuum will direct itself back to its base for recharging, and then it will resume its tasks.

This vacuum works great. I have a mixture of hardwood, tile, and thin carpets in my home, and this Eufy machine cleans really well on all of them. The self-charging feature is super convenient, and I love that the only time I need to put into vacuuming now emptying the dust bin whenever it gets full. It’s a pretty smart little machine, and I wish I’d bought one earlier.

kelly l.

This unit comes with a remote control, but it does not have any additional connectivity to home assistants or Wi-Fi. With a 0.6 L dustbin capacity, you won’t need to empty it every time it runs a vacuuming cycle. It will clean in a random pattern, but you can trust that it won’t miss any areas in your home. The tempered glass cover on this unit protects it from scratches, so it will both perform well and maintain its aesthetic for years to come.

ILIFE V80 Max Mopping Robot Vacuum Video Review

What We Think of The ILIFE V80 Max Mopping Robot Vacuum

This ILIFE robot vacuum is pretty unique, in that it has all of the standard vacuuming functionality with the addition of a mopping function. While this bonus function means it isn’t powerful enough as a vacuum to handle medium+ carpets, it can clean your hard floors like never before. It has a 0.75 L dustbin capacity and a 300 ml water tank, so as long as you keep both things clean, the vacuum will take care of your chores for you.

There are four modes you can use to clean your home with the help of its smart navigation system: a max mode, a path mode, an edge mode, and a spot mode. For example, if you spill something sticky on your kitchen floor, you can use the mop and spot modes together to clean that area. If you need a standard vacuum of your living space, you can set it to vacuum and use path mode to clear the entire area efficiently. You can mix and match however you need to in order to clean your space.

I had no idea a robot vacuum would also be capable of mopping my floors. The two chores I like the least are now done by one robot, which is just crazy to think about. I love that I can control it with an app, too. It does take a bit of work to switch between vacuuming and mopping, but it’s definitely a lot better than manually doing everything myself. I highly recommend this product to others.

christian b.

The runtime will vary between 25 and 80 minutes depending on the mode, so it does have a shorter battery life than most. It is self-charging however, so it won’t ever die and require rescuing. It can connect to Wi-Fi and Amazon Alexa to allow you to use an app or your voice to set schedules and make cleaning requests in real time. It is quite loud while operating, so that is something to keep in mind.

NARWAL T10 Robot Vacuum and Mop Combo Video Review

What We Think of the NARWAL T10 Robot Vacuum and Mop Combo

As long as you aren’t needing a robot that is compatible with carpet, this NARWHAL vac/mop is an amazing choice. It is incredibly expensive, but the quality and performance is truly worth the money.

It is capable of connecting over Wi-Fi for use with an app, but you’ll have to switch your router over to 2.4G for this functionality. It is a large, heavy unit, so keep in mind the space you’ll need to store it.

This robot is a vacuum and mop in one, and its docking station sports 2 1.3 gallon tanks, one for clean water and one for dirty water.

The robot will automatically charge and change the water, so it won’t require much input from you at all. It can run for 150 minutes at a time, but its near-silent operation means it won’t interrupt your day-to-day activities very much.

“I am currently in vet school, and I have a very busy schedule. My parents bought me this robot as a pre-graduation gift to help me focus more on my studies than the chores of my apartment. It has been a real blessing. I don’t have any carpet except a rug in my bedroom, and the mop function is really as effective as it is supposed to be. I am so grateful for this robot.” Hannah R

At the docking station, the robot will also self-clean the mops to ensure they are always cleaning effectively. They last around 3 months with average use.

The LIDAR navigation and home mapping ensures your robot will clean intelligently, not in a random pattern. Not only does this help protect your furniture and décor from bumps, but it gets the job done more efficiently as well.

iRobot Roomba 692 Wi-Fi Connected Robot Vacuum Video Review

What We Think of the iRobot Roomba 692 Wi-Fi Connected Robot Vacuum

At this affordable price point, you aren’t going to get absolutely everything in a single vacuum. This Roomba 692 compromises robot intelligence for connectivity.

You can set schedules and monitor cleaning with a compatible app, but you can also control the robot with voice commands when you don’t have your phone handy or you are too busy to mess around with the app.

This robot can be used to clean hard floors and carpets, so it is great for any type of indoor environment.

However, since it isn’t very sophisticated, it will clean in a random pattern with less-than-adequate object detection and navigational intelligence.

You will likely need to help the robot get to all of the areas it needs to clean, and it may not re-dock for self-charging properly, rendering this feature entirely useless.

“I never thought I would be a person who would buy a robot vacuum, but now that my second kid has been born, I don’t ever seem to have enough hours in the day to keep up with everything. This robot is really easy to control with the app, and the voice connectivity is really helpful when I need the house cleaned but I don’t have my hands free.” Jeanne M

This vacuum is capable of detecting the dirtier areas in your home, and it will spend more time cleaning those sections thoroughly.

The edge brush helps the robot clean corners quite effectively, and the multi-surface brushes ensure the robot can pick up large debris as well as pick up all the dust.

There’s a lot to appreciate about this vacuum, but it does necessitate some sacrifices.

Our Budget Pick for a Robot Vacuum

Presentation of the ILIFE A4s Robot Vacuum Review

ILIFE A4s Robot Vacuum, Remote Control, Strong Suction, Over 110mins Run time, Self-Charging, Slim, Quiet, Ideal for Hard Floors to Medium Carpets

The Budget Pick
ILIFE

We understand that robot vacuums may seem too expensive to be worth it, but there are affordable models out there. The ILIFE A4s Robot Vacuum is one of the most budget-friendly models available, and it still offers great performance with only a couple of downsides. It’s a pretty good deal, basically.

ILIFE A4s Robot Vacuum Video Review

What We Think of the ILIFE A4s Robot Vacuum

You may be surprised that a budget-friendly robot vacuum doesn’t differ a lot from higher priced models on the market, but this ILIFE model can hold its own quite well. It is compatible with hard floors to medium-pile carpets, so you won’t have to worry about it struggling to navigate around your home and not cleaning effectively. It does move in a random pattern since it is missing smart navigation technology, but aside from taking longer to clean a large space, there aren’t any other downsides to that.

It has a battery life that can last up to 100 minutes straight, and it is another self-charging model. This means that it will return to its base when recharging is necessary instead of just dying in the middle of the floor and relying on you to return it for charging. Its suction strength is on the low end at only 1000 Pa, but you should find that it is still quite capable of cleaning your space.

There isn’t much I don’t like about this robot vacuum. I’m a pretty simply person, so I like that I just control it with a remote control instead of worrying about wi-fi connections and all that. It was getting pretty hard for me to carry my large vacuum up and down the stairs in my house, and now I don’t have to. It works well on my hard floors and all my carpet. I would choose this brand again.

chantal w.

It operates via a remote control only, so it is lacking the additional connectivity that other machines have. However, we expect this will be easily looked past since it is so affordable. It has sensors to avoid collisions and drops like stairs, and there are four vacuuming modes to choose from. Depending on your circumstances, you can select max mode, auto mode, edge mode, or spot mode. No matter what, it will operate quietly and as efficiently as it can.

Overall, the ILIFE A4s Robot Vacuum is the best choice for budgeted shoppers looking for a high-quality cleaning companion. Shark RV750 ION Robot Connected Robotic Vacuum Video Review

What We Think of the Shark RV750 ION Robot Connected Robotic Vacuum

This a great piece of machinery for any household. It isn’t crazily expensive, but is has nearly every feature you could want in a robot vacuum. The only thing its missing is smart navigation technology, but its random pattern will still get the job done. It’s just a matter of how long it takes. It has a runtime of 90 minutes and is a self-charging model, so even if it doesn’t finish cleaning the entire house before the battery gets too low, it will resume where it left off once it is fully charged again.

The surface compatibility is as good as it gets, by which we mean that is can clean any surface thoroughly, whether that be a hard floor like tile or thick carpeting. Plus, it is very effective at getting the dirt out of corners, edges, and between tiles and floorboards. The effectiveness is essentially unparalleled, especially because it has a self grooming system that clears its vacuum brush of hair to ensure it picks up everything in its path.

I am amazed by the quality of this robot vacuum. The connectivity is as good as described, and it really does work remarkably well on all surface types, even thick carpets. It cleans the corners and edges better than any other robot vacuums I’ve seen in action, and the self grooming is super helpful. It does clean in a random pattern, but I haven’t noticed it miss any obvious spots yet. Just takes a bit more time is all.

Its connectivity is another thing to appreciate about this unit. It can connect to a smartphone app using Wi-Fi, but it can also be controlled by your Google Assistant if desired. It has both anti-drop and anti-collision sensors, ensuring that it protects your objects from being damaged and protects itself from damage by bumping into hard surfaces or falling down a flight of stairs.

iRobot Braava 380t Advanced Robot Mop Video Review

What We Think of The iRobot Braava 380t Advanced Robot Mop

This 380t robot is perhaps our least recommended unit, but that isn’t to say that it doesn’t have its uses. It is simply a less useful robot vacuum, and we’ll tell you why. Its biggest downfall is that it isn’t really a vacuum at all. It cannot be used on carpets, so it has more of a sweeping and pick up function on hard floors than a true vacuum suction. It can also mop your floors, but not in the same way that other models can.

Instead of having an internal dustbin or water tank, this robot relies on cleaning pads that you have to attach to it. Once it has moved throughout the house, you’ll need to remove them and either wash them or dispose of them, depending what type you purchase. You will also need to manually select whether you want the machine in sweep mode or mop mode, and it will simply change the way it moves around the space.

Despite its name, I would not call this an advanced robot of any kind. I don’t really like that it uses cloths to clean hard floors, because I’m never really certain about how clean my floors are getting, and I could probably do it faster with one of those long Swiffer things. It does have a really great battery life though, and it’s never missed a spot with sweeping or mopping. I wouldn’t choose it again, but its okay for now.

nancy v.

This model doesn’t come with a remote or any extra type of connectivity, and it cannot self-charge. It does have a long battery life and smart navigation system, and it is great at cleaning corners. These things may not be enough to redeem this product in your eyes, but for some people, this is all the intelligence and functionality they want in a robot cleaner.

Eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 30C Video Review

What We Think of the Eufy BoostIQ RoboVac 30C

We only have one potentially negative thing to say about this Eufy robot vacuum, but we are guessing most people won’t be too bothered by it. This vacuum doesn’t have a ton of versatility aside from varying its suction power, so it won’t be useful as a mop or for various cleaning patterns. Everything else about this model is pretty fantastic.

It can be used on almost all surface types, and has a fairly respectable dustbin size of 0.6 L. Its battery can last as long as 100 minutes, but it can drop down to 40 minutes if it is operating at full power on thicker carpets for an extended period of time. It is a self-charging unit, and has a suction strength of 1500 Pa to get all of the dirt out of your carpets.

If you’ve ever wanted a vacuum you can control completely with your voice, then you should get this model. The battery life estimates for each surface type are pretty accurate, and I love that this model can charge itself when the battery gets low. I am confident that my floors will always be cleaned on the schedule I’ve set, and I couldn’t be happier with its ease of use.

richard j,

This is one of the quietest robot vacuums, and it comes with boundary strips to prevent it form entering off limits areas. Its connectivity is by far its greatest strength. It can be controlled by its remote, a wi-fi connection to an app, or by either the Amazon Alexa or the Google Assistant. However you need to use this robot vacuum, it is up to the task.

iRobot Roomba i7+ Robot Vacuum Video Review

What We Think of The iRobot Roomba i7+ Robot Vacuum

We could fill an entire buying guide on only the great things about this i7+ robot vacuum. It is honestly that awesome. The only downside that we could identify is that it is very expensive, and therefore beyond the budget of many families. However, it is well worth the extra money, and we’re going to tell you as many reasons why as we have room for.

This vacuum has the most convenient and unique feature in its automatic dustbin-emptying feature. When it docks at its base to charge itself, all of the dust, hair, and debris it has collected will be deposited in the base’s dustbin. This capacity is much larger than the one in the vacuum itself, so it can clean up to 30 full cycles before you need to think about emptying it. It has a suction strength of 1700 Pa, so it is compatible with every surface type in your home.

I can’t believe I found a robot vacuum that actually empties its own dustbin. I live alone without any kids or pets, so I only run the vacuum once a week. I don’t have to even think about emptying the large bin for months at a time, and yet my house is always spotless. It is such an upgrade from the last robot vacuum I had, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for this company in the future. This is just great,

jeremy e.

With its Wi-Fi and Alexa connectivity, you can set schedules, request cleanup in real time, and monitor the status of the machine. You can even create virtual boundaries (no boundary strips required!) to section off areas of the house you don’t want vacuumed, such as a kid’s playroom. With a one-year warranty provided wit your purchase, longevity won’t be a concern either.

It has the best suction on the market and great compatibility with different surfaces to rid your home of pet hair.

WYZE Robot Vacuum Video Review

What We Think of the WYZE Robot Vacuum

This WYZE robot vacuum is not a product that initially stands out, but it is actually an exceptional product, especially for people with pets in the home.

A suction strength of 2100 Pa is one of the best values you’ll see on the market, so it is incredibly effective at picking up even the most stubborn debris items (aka pet hair). It is compatible on all surfaces and is therefore suitable for any home.

A runtime of 110 minutes should be enough to clean the average home in one go, but if it is extra messy one day or you have a larger home, you can rely on the self-charge feature.

If the battery gets low, the machine will dock and charge and then resume cleaning where it left off. You can set no-go zones in the app after home mapping is complete. One note to make; the mapping process will be a frustrating one. Don’t give up on the machine too early.

“I have three large dogs and two cats. Safe to say, my house is always full of little hair balls in the corners and around all the furniture. I got accustomed to vacuuming every day, sometimes even twice, to manage the hair, but eventually I decided I’d had enough. I got this vacuum about a month ago, and it is crazy how much extra time I have in my day now that I don’t have this chore anymore.” Jenna M

The precision LIDAR mapping ensures your home will be cleaned efficiently, and no spots will be missed or even repeatedly cleaned as other robots often do.

There are three cleaning modes to choose from to ensure the robot is only using as much battery power as is needed to clean the area effectively. Since it can cross height gaps up to 20mm, it won’t have any trouble navigating carpets or boundary lines in the home.

Things to Know Before Buying a Robot Vacuum

Benefits of Using a Robot Vacuum

Robot vacuums are one of the most helpful products you can buy for your home. Whether you live in a small apartment with minimal furniture, or a multi-story house full of markers of family life, a robot vacuum can drastically reduce the amount of time you spend cleaning.

Robot vacuums are built with intelligent technology, so they can be used however you need them. Different models will have different benefits of course, but all of them have a few in common.

Nearly every robot vacuum will be self charging, so they will direct themselves to their charging station when the battery gets low.

Then, they will resume cleaning where they left off. Most can be used on both hard floors as well as carpets, and some even have mopping functions.

Robot vacuums are most useful for people who have children, pets, or both. Instead of spending many hours a week cleaning up spilled food and pet hair, a robot vacuum can leave you free to manage the rest of your responsibilities.

Amazingly, some robot vacuums can be controlled by an app on your phone, or via voice controls through a home assistant like Alexa.

How to Properly Choose Your Robot Vacuum

Robot Vaccum

  1. 180 to 1000

As can be expected from a product of this kind, the price range is quite dramatic. At their cheapest, robot vacuums will cost around $180.

These models will have less smart technology built in, so they will often clean in random patterns and won’t be as powerful.

The most expensive models will approach $1000, and they will be powerful, highly intelligent, and will have multiple cleaning modes. While these models will not be affordable for every household, their quality is certainly worth the expense.

  1. Surface Compatibility.

Different robot vacuums will be compatible with different surfaces. Some models will only be usable on hard floors, and others can be used even on the thickest carpets.

On average, most robot vacuums can be used on hard floors up to low or medium-pile carpets. This compatibility will be more than adequate for most homes.

Models that are only compatible with hard floors are those that don’t have a suction feature, and therefore cannot actually vacuum in the traditional sense.

Since most homes will have carpets or rugs somewhere, a model that is usable on carpet as well as hard floors is a must have.

  1. Runtime.

Since most robot vacuums are capable of self-charging, the run time is not as important as it once was. However, if you want a model that can perform a full clean of your home in a short amount of time (such as while you run errands or get the kids out of the house), a long battery life will be important to you.

Run times for robot vacuums can vary anywhere from 25 minutes to two hours depending on their power and the surface they are cleaning.

Of course, a longer battery life will result in more of your house getting cleaned at once, by it will also likely be correlated to a longer charge time, so you may have to compromise to get the right balance for your home and desired cleaning schedule.

  1. Suction Strength.

The suction strength of a robot vacuum is the feature most strongly correlated to the surfaces it is compatible with.

Stronger suction means a vacuum can pick up items from deeper carpets, so don’t be surprised that the models with the strongest suction values are also the ones that are usable on all surface types.

Models with lighter suctions will not be as effective on carpets, so they will have reduced compatibilities.

You can expect a robot vacuum to have a suction strength anywhere between 1000 Pa and 2000 Pa. You will notice a significant difference in performance between the two ends of the spectrum.

  1. Connectivity.

Connectivity is a major draw for different brands of robot vacuums. Some people prefer their robots to be less intelligent, so there are models on the market that in fact don’t have any connectivity at all, and are instead controlled only by a remote control.

For people in the middle of the pack, there are robot vacuums that offer Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to connect the vacuum to an app on your phone and set schedules.

For people who are in love with technology and make frequent use of home assistants, there are even robot vacuums that can be controlled by your voice, with the help of Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.

  1. Self-Charging.

Self-charging vacuums are honestly the most convenient thing you’ll ever put in your home. These vacuums are spot enough to detect when they have a low battery, so instead of dying somewhere in your home, they drive themselves back to their base to recharge.

This ensures the vacuum is always ready to go when you need it, and you won’t ever lose it underneath furniture. Since essentially every robot vacuum currently on the market is capable of self-charging, it won’t be difficult to find one that suits your needs and your budget.

  1. Dustbin Capacity.

Since the task of emptying the dustbin is still one that you are responsible for, knowing the capacity is important. Some models have capacities just over half a liter, and others are as large as 750 ml.

Believe it or not, there are even a rare few models out there that can empty their dustbin on their own at the base. In this case, you’ll only need to dump that bin every 30 cleans or so.

If you only run the vacuum a couple times a week, you may go a few months without needing to even think about the vacuuming process. Isn’t that how we want it?

We do our best to provide you with a comparative guide of robot vaccums allowing you to choose the best product possible. If we are missing information or new models, do not hesitate to leave a comment below or to send us a message.
