What We Think of The Wendry Digital Door Viewer Camera

The Wendry digital door viewer camera is solidly in the middle of the pack price and feature wise. It installs in minutes with minimal maintenance thanks to a 1500mAh battery that offers extended life without battery changes or charging. This peephole camera offers a 720P resolution for video, which is lower than many others, but is plenty for viewing your outdoor space with enough clarity to distinguish people.

The camera comes with a 4.3” viewing monitor with 2 million pixels for clear images and video. The camera angle is a generous 160 degrees, so you’ll see everyone who comes up to your door plainly. The digital door viewer includes motion detection, night vision, and automatic picture taking for user convenience.

I got this digital door viewer for my grandmother and she loves it. She can see people clearly when they come to visit or deliver something. The doorbell is loud enough that she can hear it from anywhere in the house, which is saying something as she’s mostly deaf in one ear. It installed in minutes and the night vision is really high quality. She feels much safer answering her door now!

The doorbell function is incredibly useful, especially since it is loud enough to be heard from anywhere in most midsize homes. Unfortunately, this peephole camera does not come with Wi-Fi connectivity, audio functionality, or generous cloud storage – instead, you’ll have only 8GB of onboard storage via SD card slot. This Wendry digital door viewer offers great image quality and usefulness, but it is missing a few key features that some users will find disappointing.

XTU Wi-Fi Video Doorbell Camera Video Review

What We Think of The XTU Wi-Fi Video Doorbell Camera

The XTU video doorbell camera is a top choice for its high resolution, assortment of features, and durability. This peephole camera shows video with 2K Ultra HD resolution that displays video in crystal clear quality so you can see every detail and identify faces in case of theft, break-ins, etc. This camera displays in live view, but motion detection also alerts you via notification to your smartphone if someone is at your door.

The doorbell has an included wireless chime that can be placed anywhere in your home so you’re never too far away to answer your door. The camera is equipped with two-way audio so you can hear and speak to visitors without opening the door, though you also have the option of responding with pre-recorded responses to give instructions to delivery workers.

The XTU wireless doorbell and security camera is better than all the rest! It was easy to install, though it does use the original doorbell wiring so it’s a bit more complicated than battery operated cameras. The included wireless chime was paired with a one-touch button and can be placed anywhere in the home. Connecting it took me less than 5 minutes with a QR code and a Wi-Fi password. Highly recommended!

duncan r.

The camera works with Alexa so you can view the camera image on your TV, and the extra-wide 166-degree angle can be adjusted thanks to a 20-degree adjustable stand. The camera is entirely weather resistant as well, so you’re safe in all types of weather. Its night vison is clear and reliable as well. The camera can store video on the cloud or you can use up to a 128GB SD card for onboard storage. This peephole camera offers all the features you could need from a doorbell/security camera combo.

What We Think of The Serounder Digital Door Viewer Camera

This Serounder digital door viewer is equipped with a 160 degree viewing angle; a wide angle like this ensures that you can see everything that goes on around your front door, ensuring you don’t accidentally miss important information if people are out of frame. The customizable doorbell tone ensures that you can have the best experience every time someone comes to your door.

With a 32GB SD slot, a 3500 mA rechargeable battery, and a 3 MP camera, this peephole system has all the requirements of a top-performing surveillance setup for your front door. You can save both pictures and video recordings to memory, and the 4.5” monitor ensures that you have a great view of every second. Plus, the motion detection guarantees you’ll always capture the things that are important, even when people don’t ring the bell.

I am really impressed with the quality of this peephole camera by Serounder. I love that it has larger storage capabilities than my last camera, and the picture and video quality is more than adequate for my purposes. The wide viewing angle is excellent, and I feel so much safer leaving my house every day, knowing that it is monitored 24/7.

Night vision technology is essential for overnight recordings, and this model has that covered as well. With three different modes to choose from (at home mode, away from home mode, and do not disturb mode), you’ll only receive the notifications that are relevant to your needs. The only downside of this system really is that the motion detection can be a bit slow, but if you aren’t overly concerned with response time, you won’t have any complaints.

Our Budget Pick for a Peephole Camera

The Budget Pick
Lazmin112

If you’re looking for a peephole camera that won’t break the bank, the Lazmin112 doorbell camera is a great pick. It boasts a simple, no-frills design that allows users to save money while simultaneously providing extra security through video monitoring.

What We Think of the Lazmin112 Doorbell Camera

The Lazmin112 doorbell camera is the most affordable option on our list, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less useful. It doesn’t have the same advanced feature that some of the higher-end doorbell viewers have, but it offers reliable recording during the day and night with a 720P high-definition resolution. Though you won’t see every detail, you’ll see enough.

This doorbell camera comes with a 2.8” monitor for viewing, so you won’t need to hook up your phone or set up the camera with Wi-Fi, making for a super simple and quick installation process as well. The camera angle is a bit smaller than the industry average at 145 degrees, but it isn’t enough of a difference to impact your view too much; you’ll still see the entire area in front of your door, plus a large portion of your yard.

I chose the Lazmin112 doorbell camera because my pre-teens are too young to see through the peephole but I didn’t want hem opening the door unless they know who’s there. This low-budget camera doesn’t have the greatest video quality, but it is more than enough for our purposes and I like that we can take pictures of people in front of our door. The night vision is also really helpful.

molly u.

There is no motion detection capability on this doorbell camera, so you won’t receive alerts to movement in front of your home. Rather, you’ll need to check the live view to see who’s knocked or rung the doorbell. This camera does record snapshots of visitor activity to a 32GB SD card located on the monitor, but it won’t save anything to the cloud.

Our Final Opinion About the Lazmin112 Doorbell Camera

Quality 3.0 out of 5.0 stars Effectiveness 3.0 out of 5.0 stars Design: Price 5.0 out of 5.0 stars

The Lazmin112 doorbell camera is a lower-end choice ideal for those who need only simple video recording of their front door. With limited features, you won’t have the same level of useability, but the value of this doorbell camera makes it the right choice if budget is the biggest concern.

Pomya EyeDigital Door Viewer Camera Video Review

What We Think of the Pomya EyeDigital Door Viewer Camera

This Pomya peephole camera will be one of those products that is suited to a select group of people and no others. As far as simplicity goes, this camera is the best on the market, but its lack of features will cause it to be a model that is often overlooked. It is powered by four AAA batteries and will only take a few minutes to install, so if you aren’t a very tech-savvy individual, you’ll love these two features most.

While this peephole camera is missing the more sought after features such as motion detection, night vision technology, and image/video recording, the simple operating status means that the batteries will not run out very quickly. This will save you the time and hassle that go along with frequent battery changes. When the batteries do start to die out, you’ll get a low power alert to indicate that you need to replace them.

If you only want a door camera to be able to see who is there when they knock or ring the bell, this is the best camera to buy. It is really affordable and simple to install. However, if you’re looking for video recording, night vision technology, or anything else more tech-savvy, you won’t find your needs met with this model. For my purposes, it’s pretty great. I would recommend it for sure.

The 3.5” monitor that will be affixed to the interior side of your front door means you’ll have a great view of everyone moving around or asking for entry. All you have to do is press a button to have the camera activate, and you’ll have a 120 degree field of view around your front door. This model can fit into any door no matter its thickness and it is quite affordable, so it can be purchased by pretty much anyone.

digitharbor Digital Door Peephole Camera Video Review

What We Think of the digitharbor Digital Door Peephole Camera

This digitharbor peephole camera has a lot of great things to offer. It really only has missing feature, and that is the ability to record video. If that isn’t on your must haves list, we are quite certain you’ll love this product. It is really easy to install has an exceptionally long battery life of 6 months. Since the battery only takes 5 hours to charge fully, you will only have 10 hours of downtime in an entire year.

Although the 120 degree field of view is not as wide as some other models on the market, it still offers an adequate view of the space in front of your door. Since this camera’s main function is to take pictures of anyone who rings, this viewing able is more than adequate for its purposes. Each photo will be composed of one million pixels, so quality isn’t something you’ll ever have to worry about either.

I am quite pleased with the performance of this peephole camera. This is my first time having one and I wasn’t sure I really needed it, but it actually gives me a lot of peace of mind. I enjoy knowing who has been to my door, and now that I have hired a dog walker, it is a great way to double check that they came and did the job as they were supposed to. I would recommend this camera to others.

The interior monitor is 3.5”, which is pretty average for this product type. The camera can store 75 photos at once, and if you don’t clear them, it will automatically overwrite the oldest photos in order to store the new ones. There is night vision technology built in as well, so you can be confident in the camera’s ability to capture images clearly even after the sun has gone down.

If you are just not a techy individual, you may be looking for a peephole camera that is fairly simplistic and doesn’t have much going on. What We Think of the Yoidesu Smart Security Camera

With a 140 degree viewing angle, this Yoidesu camera falls square in the middle of the pack for field of view. Some cameras are as narrow as 120 degrees, and others as wide as 165 degrees, so if you’re looking for middle ground, this is it. It has a 1 MP resolution for each photo it takes, and it will automatically capture an image every time the built in doorbell is used.

There is no motion detection, night vision, or video recording for this model, so it is fairly simple in design and operation. However, it is very lightweight and affordable as a result. Plus, it will only take you a few minutes to install, even if you’ve never done it before. The 4.3” monitor is larger than many other comparable products, so if you’re looking for large, clear images, this camera system will do the job.

I did not have the greatest experience with this camera, only because I thought it recorded video when I bought it, and it doesn’t. Learn from my mistake. However, if you aren’t looking for video surveillance and will be happy with photos of people who use the doorbell, this one will suit you just fine. It only took a couple of minutes to install, and you won’t need to manage the storage.

After every photo is take, this camera will automatically enter standby mode after 15 seconds in order to conserve battery life. When the battery does get low, you can charge it via USB. Wyze Video Doorbell Video Review

What We Think of the Wyze Video Doorbell

The Wyze video doorbell is a simpler option for people who don’t need their cameras to record. The camera works with an app rather than an included monitor, so you’ll receive instant alerts to your phone when the camera sensor picks up movement in front of your home. 1080P HD video is clear enough for the camera to show details and faces pretty clearly, and a 3:4 aspect ratio lets you see the ground in front of your door as well.

The doorbell chime is loud enough that you can hear it from anywhere in your home, within reason, and will also send a notification to your phone so you know when guests are present. The live feed allows you to choose when to open the door, meaning you can avoid that crazy neighbor but answer the door for a delivery driver.

I like that this Wyze doorbell works with an app so I can check my front door from anywhere, even if I’m out shopping or at a friend’s house. The alerts make me feel safe since I know when someone approaches my home, and the price is really fantastic. It was very simple to set up and has good daytime and nighttime quality. I am annoyed that I would need to pay for monitoring without a cooldown though.

The doorbell will light up when the motion detection sensors sense movement, alerting anyone in front of your home that they are being watched as an extra deterrent against theft, vandalism, or break-in. the doorbell itself is weather-resistant for ongoing reliability in all types of weather conditions. Though this doorbell camera doesn’t have all the features of higher-end options, it is a good choice for budget-minded shoppers who don’t need recording and don’t mind settling for fewer features.

Morecam Wi-Fi Wireless Video Doorbell Camera Video Review

What We Think of The Morecam Wi-Fi Wireless Video Doorbell Camera

The Morecam wireless video doorbell is one of the most effective options on the market. It has a few impressive user-friendly features that make it easier than ever to monitor your home the way you need. PIR motion detection filters out animals and people with heat signatures to minimize false alarms caused by nature and weather.

Another great feature is the instant alerts straight to your smartphone when someone is in front of the camera. With 1080P resolution and night vision, you’ll never miss movement in front of your door. The extra-wide 166-degree camera angle lets you see more, and the two-way audio lets you communicate without opening your door to stay safer without ignoring visitors or deliveries.

I’ve been using this doorbell camera for a week so far and I am very impressed. I was able to communicate with the UPS driver yesterday without opening my door which was super cool. When looking at your recorded videos in the app, you can see which are motion detection and which are doorbell presses. Install was really easy, though it only works with 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. A wireless chime is included that you can plug into a USB hub anywhere.

You can choose to store recordings on the Cloud or on the camera itself with up to a128gb SD card (32GB card is included with the camera). A strong battery charges in 8-10 hours and lasts for 3-4 months at a time, though you’ll receive low-battery alerts to remind you when it’s time for a recharge. You can check the live view anytime on your smartphone through the app, though since you can set your motion detection sensors to one of five sensitivity levels, you’ll never miss anything even if you wait for alerts.

What We Think of The Sonew Digital Door Viewer

The Sonew digital door viewer is another affordable option, and it has one of the biggest monitors that we’ve seen included with doorbell cameras. At 3”, it’s big enough to pick up all the details you need without opening your door. Unfortunately, this large monitor is paired with a very narrow 120-degree camera viewing angle, so it isn’t as effective as it could be with a 160-degree+ doorbell camera.

The included battery is easily rechargeable, so you won’t have to worry about hardwiring anything into place during setup. In fact, installing this doorbell video camera will only take a few minutes. The camera has infrared HD night vision for clear picture in the gloom. The camera also takes pictures of whoever is at your door and stores them on built-in memory, so you don’t have to trouble yourself with external storage cards.

Setup was simple since it comes with three different screw sizes for any door thickness. The inside screen easily comes off for recharging the battery, though I’ve had it three months and haven’t had to charge yet. I found that the images of people at the door was pretty dark, so I’m a bit disappointed since it seems to get confused by hallway lighting, I think. It’s probably better in an outdoor setting.

Unfortunately, the Sonew digital door viewer does not record video, so it doesn’t offer the same level of security as others would. The battery life is fairly impressive with up to 6 months of standby time on a single charge. There is a 5-second delay between pushing the doorbell and the sound chiming in the house, so that may take some getting used to and may be an annoying feature for many users. Overall, the performance and quality is on par with what’s expected at this price range.

The Sonew digital door viewer is lacking a few features, including video recording and audio, but as a live-view camera to let you know who’s at your door, it performs as well as the rest. Though the smaller camera angle is a bit disappointing, the simplicity and affordability of this doorbell camera makes it a desirable choice for many shoppers.

Eufy Wireless Video Doorbell Video Review

What We Think of The Eufy Wireless Video Doorbell

The Eufy video doorbell is one of the best options on the market in terms of a surplus of features and video quality. With 2K resolution in high definition, you’ll easily recognize faces and enjoy precise detail in your video. You have two connection options with the Eufy doorbell, and either way installation takes just a few minutes with simple steps.

The Eufy doorbell has custom activity zones that you can set to avoid being bombarded by activity notifications from kids playing or cars driving past. The camera also has smart human detection and a motion sensor for real-time notifications of activity in front of your home. Its connectivity is high-end, so you have three chime options for your doorbell: the home base speaker, an Echo Dot, or a mechanical chime.

The Eufy doorbell camera has two power options which is nice, though I prefer the wired option since I don’t have to worry about the battery dying at an inopportune time. I like that the home base stores video since it’s always there even if someone steals the actual camera. This version is pretty expensive, but I like the extra features of fail recognition and activity zones.

This doorbell camera has storage built into the home base with enough space for up to 16GB of video recordings, but doesn’t have a cloud storage option unless you’re willing to pay for it. The doorbell can be set up with 3 different instant responses, so you can relay delivery instructions without actually answering your door. With the Eufy camera, your home is secure and monitored 24/7 by a doorbell camera that can be personalized to your specific needs.

Why Should You Trust Us?

All our recommendations on The Good Choice are the result of many weeks or months of research, comparisons, analyses of user’s ratings and if need be, interviews with experts and scientists. You will quickly notice that the products we suggest here are not the most expensive or the most trendy: they are those that will best perform their daily tasks, passing all security, reliability and efficiency tests while having an appealing price-quality ratio for everyone.

In the end, the products we recommend are those we would have wanted to buy, or those we will choose for our friends and family.

Things to Know Before Buying a Peephole Camera

How Do I Know What Camera Viewing Angle is Best?

In general, a wider viewing angle will be better. However, cameras with a 120-degree viewing angle do have their uses. If you have a narrow porch, a wider camera is unnecessary since there won’t be a lot of variation in where people stand. If you’re looking for a more comprehensive picture/video of your door activities, a camera viewing angle closer to 160 degrees would be ideal.

Why Should I Buy A Peephole Camera?

Peephole cameras can make it a lot easier to identify who is at your door before you open it, and they can also help you keep an eye on your property and see who visits you while you’re away. Plus, the presence of a visible camera at your front door is a great way to deter burglars and vandals. If you’d simply like to see who is at your door before answering it, or you’re in a position where you need to feel safer in your home but can’t afford a full alarm system, a peephole camera can be the solution.

How Do I Install A Peephole Camera?

Peephole cameras are generally very easy to install. Wired models will require you to have wiring in place at your doorway to provide power, so their installation will be a little bit more complicated, but the battery powered models that are beginning to dominate the market will be much easier. If your door already has a peephole installed, you’ll simply need to take that one out and install your new camera in the exact same place. Simply line up the outdoor and indoor pieces of your peephole camera, and screw them together. That’s it!

How to Properly Choose Your Peephole Camera

peephole camera

  1. Price.

A peephole camera can cost you anywhere from roughly $70 to more than $300. The amount you are willing to spend will affect the overall quality of the camera, the number of features that are included, and its longevity. In general, more expensive cameras will have night vision, motion detection, and even a doorbell ring. Cheaper models will generally have narrower viewing angles and poorer resolutions, but not every affordable model will require a lot of sacrifice when it comes to quality.

  1. Camera Viewing Angle.

Most peephole cameras will have a viewing angle somewhere between 120 degrees and 166 degrees. Wider viewing angles will offer you a wider field of vision, so they are better for keeping an eye on your entire front property or ensuring you can see a visitor anywhere on a larger porch. Smaller viewing angles won’t offer the same field of vision, so they are better for people who just want a quick glimpse of their front door.

  1. Resolution.

The resolution of your peephole camera will affect how clear your images/videos are. The common range is between 720p and 2k, and many cameras can even output images in HD quality. Cameras with better resolutions tend to be more expensive, so that is something to keep in mind. If you will only be using your camera to check who is at your door before you answer it, a lower resolution camera will suit you just fine. If you want better detail in your photos and or video, higher resolution is the way to go.

  1. Monitor Included.

Some peephole cameras will come with a monitor, and others will not. The inclusion of a monitor can be very helpful, since you don’t need your smartphone with you to see who is at the door. The reason that this isn’t a standard inclusion is because some people will only want to use the camera when they aren’t at home; the monitor would therefore be an unnecessary expense added to the camera itself.

  1. Storage Options.

There are a couple different ways that your photos and/or videos can be stored. Some peephole cameras will require you to use an SD card with a set amount of storage space, others will sync to your smartphone and store the data in an app, some will have storage built into the camera, and others still can sync to the cloud to store your images there. The amount of storage you need will determine the best option for you.

  1. Night Vision.

Night vision is not included with every peephole camera, but it sure is a convenience that some people will prioritize. Night vision will allow your camera to be useful at all times of the day, not just during daylight hours. This makes the camera more valuable to you and also allows you to see outside without opening your door when there is the most risk. This is a feature that will likely raise the price of the camera, but it is a must have for many homes out there.

  1. Motion Detection.

Motion detection can be a great way to conserve battery life on a wireless peephole camera. Instead of running constantly, a camera outfitted with motion detection capabilities will only take photos/videos when motion is detected within range. This ensures you don’t have hours of useless footage to sort through, and you won’t drain the battery life too quickly. Some cameras will even use motion detection as a trigger for sending you an alert, so you know that someone is at the door before they are even close enough to knock or ring the bell.

  1. Doorbell Ring.

Not all peephole cameras will be outfitted with a ring function, but many of them will be. This combines your doorbell and camera into one device, and can help maintain the organization and aesthetic of your front door. The ring is incredibly convenient because they are often more reliable and customizable than standard doorbells. Their volume can be adjusted, and you can even choose different sounds and tone types.

  1. Smart Features.

There are many peephole cameras that offer some smart features to elevate your experience even further. Many can send alerts to your smartphone when someone is at your door, and the most advanced models can even allow you to set activity zones to monitor different areas of the camera’s viewing range. Certain brands of peephole camera will even have a two-way audio system, allowing you to communicate with someone at your door without opening the door, and even when you aren’t at home.

We do our best to provide you with a comparative guide of peephole cameras allowing you to choose the best product possible. If we are missing information or new models, do not hesitate to leave a comment below or to send us a message.
