The Sonew digital door viewer is another affordable option, and it has one of the biggest monitors that we’ve seen included with doorbell cameras. At 3”, it’s big enough to pick up all the details you need without opening your door. Unfortunately, this large monitor is paired with a very narrow 120-degree camera viewing angle, so it isn’t as effective as it could be with a 160-degree+ doorbell camera.
The included battery is easily rechargeable, so you won’t have to worry about hardwiring anything into place during setup. In fact, installing this doorbell video camera will only take a few minutes. The camera has infrared HD night vision for clear picture in the gloom. The camera also takes pictures of whoever is at your door and stores them on built-in memory, so you don’t have to trouble yourself with external storage cards.
Setup was simple since it comes with three different screw sizes for any door thickness. The inside screen easily comes off for recharging the battery, though I’ve had it three months and haven’t had to charge yet. I found that the images of people at the door was pretty dark, so I’m a bit disappointed since it seems to get confused by hallway lighting, I think. It’s probably better in an outdoor setting.

Unfortunately, the Sonew digital door viewer does not record video, so it doesn’t offer the same level of security as others would. The battery life is fairly impressive with up to 6 months of standby time on a single charge. There is a 5-second delay between pushing the doorbell and the sound chiming in the house, so that may take some getting used to and may be an annoying feature for many users. Overall, the performance and quality is on par with what’s expected at this price range.
