Printers come in handy in home and office settings for all number of documents, photos, and so much more. However, not all printers are created equal. A laser printer offers excellent longevity with up to 20,000 pages per cartridge rather than a measly 2500 from an inkjet printer. They are easy to use, come in a variety of sizes with various connectivity capabilities, and are available in both black and white or colour options. Plus, they are cheaper to operate and don’t require any maintenance the way an inkjet printer would.
Laser printers can also include copying and scanning capabilities, making them a great choice for a home office or casual home use. If you need to add a printer to your home or replace an old, tired printer, we can help.

The Best Overall
HP
The HP Neverstop offers one of the most convenient and energy efficient printing systems for your home. Although it is expensive, it is not over priced and offers everything you could need and more from a laser printer.
HP Neverstop Laser Printer Video Review
What We Think of the HP Neverstop Laser Printer
If you want the best overall laser printer, we recommend the HP Neverstop laser printer. This printer is different from the basic model because you can print virtually anywhere using the HP smart app. By downloading the app, you can easily print from most smartphones and devices.
For further convenience, the HP Neverstop comes with built-in Ethernet, as well as Wi-Fi direct capabilities. Using a USB 2.0 port, you can connect it to your PC. For further convenience, the printer features an LED control panel.
The device offers great value. It comes with 5000 pages of toner and it’s Energy Star 3.0 certified. This Energy Star rating ensures that you aren’t wasting anymore energy or electricity than needed on this product. Not to mention, it comes with an innovative toner usage that prevents you from having to refill the toner as frequently as you would with other models.
The biggest drawback of the HP Neverstop is its price. It isn’t outrageously expensive, but it isn’t necessarily safe for budgets either. You might need to save up a bit before purchasing this model.
This printer is easy to set up an connects immediately to the Internet without help. The instructions were complete and filling all the ink tanks was easy. I recommend this.

There are a few minor issues as well. Some customers noted that it doesn’t feed paper through smoothly, whereas others wished there was an easier non-wireless option. Most of these sort of complaints were minor at best and don’t affect the printer’s performance too much.
As a result, the HP Neverstop is the best overall laser printer this year. though it is a bit expensive, it can help you save on electricity and toner, all while creating a convenient and easy-to-use system.

Our Colour Pick for a Laser Printer
Canon Wireless Color All-In-One Laser Printer Review
The Colourful Choice
Canon
If you’re looking for a color printer, the Canon Wireless Color Printer is a great choice. It offers advanced technology, but it is expensive, more so than our best overall pick.
Canon Wireless Color All-In-One Laser Printer Video Review
What We Think of the Canon Wireless Color All-In-One Laser Printer
If you do not need a color printer, we would not recommend wasting your money since these devices are more expensive than black and white printers. However, those in need of a color printer should select the Canon Wireless Color Printer.
This Canon printer is a wireless laser printer that offers high speed processing and advanced technology. It has the ability to reach output rates of 22 PPM, which is fast and lets you get your pages much faster than with other printers.
In addition to expediency, the results are attractive. The printer comes with 600 dots per inch (DPI), resulting in good print quality, which is necessary when producing documents, photos, and other items that require colored ink.
The device is easy-to-use. It comes with a color touch LCD that allows you to easily manage settings and tasks. You can load paper easily since up to 250 sheets can be held at one time in the printer.
Like our best overall pick, this Canon printer has both wireless and mobile printing compatibility. You can either connect it with built-in Ethernet or wireless LAN. With Canon’s free mobile app or Apple AirPrint, you can print directly from your mobile devices too.
The most obvious drawback of this printer is its price. It isn’t the most expensive printer on the list, but it is far from being the most affordable either. That being said, color printers tend to be more expensive than monochromatic ones as is.
Item arrived on time and well packed. First glance I thought its a judge box, thought of returning it back due to size. But glad I didn’t. Easy to set up, step by step guides you through set up on print and scan. I am using through wireless network, and it works like a charm. No complaints so far!

There are some issues with durability it seems. A couple of users noted that the machine died within a few years. Given the price of this printer, it should last more than two or so years.
Because of its printing quality, the Canon Wireless Color Printer is the best color printer, despite its drawbacks. It certainly is not without its issues, but it offers great printing abilities and features for color laser printing use.

Our Budget Pick for a Laser Printer
Pantum Wireless Monochrome Laser Printer Review
The Affordable Choice
Pantum
The Pantum Printer offers an impressive printer at a low price. Although it doesn’t come with as many connectivity options or advanced features as some other products on this list, it’s a great way to print at home without breaking your budget.
Pantum Wireless Monochrome Laser Printer Video Review
What We Think of the Pantum Wireless Monochrome Laser Printer
Whether you’re a student or just starting out in your career, you might need a personal printer but don’t have the budget for an advanced model. If that’s the case, you should get the Pantum Printer.
The Pantum Printer is compatible with PC devices and laptops and connects via USB. If you want to print wirelessly, you have that option too using the Pantum app. Simply download the app or you can use Apple AirPrint instead. When connected, you can print out pages in 23 PPM, which is decently fast, especially for an affordable model.
As our budget pick, the outright price tag is obviously impressive. Most people should be able to afford this product. We cannot find anything about a warranty, which is a downside, though.
Another downside is that the ink that comes with the printer isn’t good. Given this is a budget printer, we aren’t overly disappointed by this fact, but it is an inconvenience. This printer can’t handle high volumes either.
I rarely write reviews, but I am actually impressed with this product. I was skeptical of this brand because I’ve never heard of it. I have this printer working perfectly on my Mac and Windows devices. The trick is to download the drivers directly from the site on your Mac first, then open the software, and finally type in your Wi-Fi information. After that, it will say it doesn’t work, but plug it into your USB. The device will transfer the password to the printer on its own and work on all devices. I hope it works for a long time.

Still, we’re overall impressed by the Pantum Printer because it is so affordable yet offers great features that are rarely seen on printers of its price range. Just keep in mind that this is best suited for light or minimal use.

Alternative Products to Consider
HP Color LaserJet Pro Printer Review
The Convenient Alternative
HP
Another good color printer is the HP Color Pro. It is great for intense needs and fast printing, but it is expensive and bulky. This shouldn’t be your go to for home use.
HP Color LaserJet Pro Printer Video Review
What We Think of the HP Color LaserJet Pro Printer
If you read through our color printer pick and are still on the search for the right model for you, we recommend the HP Color Pro as an alternative. This printer is better suited for professional use because it is larger and can handle more paper at a time.
The printer connects to Ethernet and USB to print from various devices. It comes with built-in dual band Wi-Fi for wireless printing. More so, it comes with printing, copying, scanning, faxing, and emailing capabilities, allowing this one device to do it all.
One reason we specifically like this printer for office use is because it has a simple design, despite having so many capabilities. The simple design means that you don’t have to spend your precious time figuring out how to use the device.
Like all HP printers, this one comes with best in class security. It is able to detect and stop attacks before they happen, ensuring your business information is only sent to those approved to see it.
Since this is our alternative pick, there has to be a reason why. For starters, a few people have complaints about the scanner not working as it should. Though the scanner is not vital for a color printer, any features included in the device should work properly.
This is a great printer. Easy to set up and great quality. I mainly got this for the print and scan features. The scanner isn’t the best, but the printer is great quality. My last HP lasted for 11 years, and I hope this one lasts as long to.
craig s.
The device doesn’t have as good of printing quality either. Don’t get us wrong, the quality is still good, but it isn’t as impressive as our previous color printer. If you expect to print a lot of pictures, flyers, and other items where quality is a must, we recommend the above-mentioned color printer.
All around, the HP Color Pro is a great color printer alternative because it comes with so many features. The printing quality might not be as good as our favorite color printer, but it is still decent.

LEXMARK Monochrome Compact Laser Printer Review
The Compact Alternative
Lexmark
If you need to place your printer in a home office or dorm, you need a compact printer like this Lexmark. It is compact and has multiple connectivity options, but set up is difficult, and it doesn’t offer any advanced features.
LEXMARK Monochrome Compact Laser Printer Video Review
What We Think of the LEXMARK Monochrome Compact Laser Printer
The Lexmark printer is great if you are limited on space because it is designed compactly. Its compact dimensions should allow you to place this on your desk or on another small table in your office pretty easily.
For further convenience, you can hook this printer up by Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or USB. These various options allow you to connect your printer in any way you want, which is a convenient feature if you are already tight on space.
The printer is reliable and does a good job at printing papers, sales reports, and other miscellaneous small documents. It can print up to 36 pages per minute, which means the printer is fast.
In terms of price, the Lexmark is more affordable than many others. It isn’t as cheap as our budget pick, but it is nowhere near as expensive as some of the other options on this list. So, this may be the choice for you if you want to splurge just a bit but not go crazy.
The biggest complaint we found about this Lexmark was set up. Many users complained that setting up the device was incredibly difficult, especially setting up the wireless compatibility. Expect to spend a bit of time trying to connect your printer as a result.
Something else that is a potential drawback about the Lexmark is that it doesn’t come with advanced features. This is simply a good printer if you want to print basic and minimal documents. If you want to do anything else, this is not an ideal device.
I tried to set this printer up wirelessly, but I failed. I ended up wiring the entire office, and it functioned perfectly after. Much better quality than my inkjet and faster too. The built-in duplex printing is awesome. It’s been easy to work with once it was wired into the network.
russell i.
For most people looking for a compact printer, the Lexmark will deliver. After all, it does a good job for its price and size, but it may not be your cup of tea if you are looking for a highly efficient printer to handle all of your office tasks. Also, anticipate set up being brutal.

HP LaserJet Pro Printer Review
The Top Security Alternative
HP
The HP Pro is perfect for business people because it offers a number of security protocols. It isn’t suitable for companywide use, but it may be a perfect addition to a receptionist desk or boss’ office where classified documents frequent.
HP LaserJet Pro Printer Video Review
What We Think of the HP LaserJet Pro Printer
HP printers are known for having great security measures, but this HP has quite a few options. Its best in class security includes a suite of embedded security features. For example, it offers instant threat notifications and optional pin/pull printing. Because of these features, you don’t have to worry about your classified information getting leaked.
Plus, this HP printer is fast. It offers 2 sided printing, and it can print up to 40 pages at a time. All of the pages are printed with great quality, allowing you to put your best foot forward to your clients and partners.
This printer comes with a number of other features as well. It comes with EcoSmart toner, two line LCD display, a paper tray, simple set up, easy replacement, and Energy Star certification. These features create a highly efficient and usable device that is helpful for everyone.
Even though this HP Pro is impressive, we wouldn’t recommend it to most homeowners because it is so expensive. This is the most expensive product on our list, yet it lacks many of the luxury features of some of the other products. For example, it is Ethernet only.
I replaced my old printer with this one. It’s not wireless, but my old printer wasn’t either, so I didn’t care. I was able to set this up quickly and my network assigned it the same IP address as my old printer. I like that the small screen shows IP address when printing and the print was nice and crisp.
dave t.
There are also some downsides for professional use. Because it only has a 250 sheet input tray, it is only suitable for one person use. This won’t be a good office printer that everyone uses. Instead, it is suitable for individual office for personal use.
With all this in mind, the HP Pro is an impressive printer for single, professional use, such as by a receptionist or boss. Because of its expensive price tag but small capacity, it is not an ideal shared office appliance.

What We Think of the Xerox Wireless Monochrome Printer
Even if you work at home, you want your career and business to take off just as it would if you were working in a traditional office. One way that you can help your career is by opting for a decent printer and scanner.
The Xerox printer is our favorite home office choice because it is compact, yet it still offers the multifunction capabilities of more traditional office printers. It has printing, scanning, and copying capabilities, allowing you to get all of your work done.
The print time is also fast. The first page comes out in as little as 8.5 seconds. More importantly, all information is protected with built-in security protocols and features. For home work, these features are a must because they protect your company’s privacy.
With an Energy Star certification, you can count on your Xerox to help the environment and lower your monthly utility bill. Pricewise, it’s right in the middle of the pack. For a home office, that is a good thing because it means you are splurging for the betterment of your career without wasting any money.
This is definitely a high quality printer with a lot of functions and wireless capability, but I opted to call customer support for set up because it was difficult. They walked me through the entire process to make it easier.

Although there is a lot to love about this Xerox, there are complaints. Some people complain set up is tricky, but they note it is easy-to-use once you set it up. There are also some other issues, such as the device losing Wi-Fi, which causes the scanning software to work slowly or not at all.
Even with these drawbacks, the Xerox printer is still a great addition to any home office. It can help you get your work done more efficiently and without spending a fortune.

What We Think of the Brother DCPL2550DW Wireless Monochrome Printer
The Brother wireless monochrome printer is a high-quality yet affordable all-in-one laser printer. It prints, scans, and copies so you can perform all of your important functions in one place with one machine. This printer is ideally suited to home use or smaller office settings that don’t have the space for a larger printer or multiple machines for your daily scanning, photocopying, and printing tasks. For even better value, you can set the toner save mode to use less toner per sheet.
The paper tray slides smoothly in and out and holds 250 sheets of paper. This printer can print double-sided and does so automatically so you don’t have to worry about flipping and inserting the printed sheet the right way. While this machine can print up to 15,000 pages in a month, the recommended monthly print volume is 2000 for optimal functioning. The top of the printer opens for simple scanning and copying and the printer is equipped with an automatic document feeder that can handle up to 50 pages.
Set-up is okay, as fast as can be expected really since it worked the first time, and it connects to any device on your wi-fi network for wireless printing which I find very useful. It is very simple to scan and copy documents, and printing large files is fairly quick which is ideal since I’m a teacher and print tons of tests and worksheets. Overall a great printer, way better than my last inkjet printer.

The printing speed of this Brother model is quite desirable at 36 pages per minute. You can use normal sheets or legal sized paper in this printer as well as envelopes and card stock. Canon ImageClass MF642Cdw Wireless Colour Laser Printer Review
The Colourful Choice
Canon
Monochrome printers are great, but sometimes that gray-scale tone gets old. If you want to add a bit of colour to your otherwise boring printing regimen, the Canon ImageClass MF642Cdw wireless colour printer will give you every shade of blue, green, red, and every other colour you desire.
Canon ImageClass MF642Cdw Wireless Colour Laser Printer Video Review
What We Think of the Canon ImageClass MF642Cdw Wireless Colour Laser Printer
The Canon ImageClass wireless colour printer is an all-in-one machine that can print, scan, and copy with ease. A large 5” interface allows for optimal control and ease-of-use during set-up as well as adjustment of settings or functions. This printer does have colour functionality so is an incredibly versatile machine ideal for any application from printing legal documents to coloured pie charts and fun graphs.
The maximum print volume recommended for this machine is 2500 pages, so with a tray capacity of 250 sheets, you’ll only need to refill your printer a maximum of 10 times per month for better productivity. This printer can print regular pages at a speed of 22 per minute while the legal size will take a bit longer for a total of close to 18 pages per minute. Since this printer has wireless connectivity, you can print from any device in any area of your home or office. Unfortunately, you will have to set-up through Wi-Fi as it does not have a USB or ethernet port available.
“This canon printer replaced my old brother colour laser printer, and the quality is definitely way better with ten years of upgrades. The 5” touch screen is very sharp and set-up of the printer was quick and easy. It prints reasonably quickly though certainly not as fast as some others I’ve used. I am impressed with the quality and enjoy the wireless connectivity very much.
Mary H.
This printer/scanner/copier is quite heavy at 60 lbs and is a bit larger, so you will need a sturdier desk and larger storage space if adding this to your home or office environment. Another flaw of this Canon model is that the operation running noise is quite loud. The slower printing speeds make this printer less ideal for bulk printing jobs, but it is great for lower page numbers with a 10.3 second start-up for the first page.

The Affordable Choice
Brother
If you need a reliable and quick printer for your home or office but don’t want to spend an extraordinary amount of money for features you won’t use, the Brother HL-L2320D monochrome laser printer is the simpler, affordable model that will work well for all of your basic printing needs.
Brother HL-L2320D Monochrome Laser Printer Video Review
What We Think of the Brother HL-L2320D Monochrome Laser Printer
The Brother monochrome laser printer offers excellent value for your money. It is a compact printer but still holds 250 sheets of paper that is adjustable up to a legal paper size. You can also print envelopes using this printer since it has a manual feed slot designed for envelopes of all sizes. This printer is not wireless and requires a USB connection to print. The display is incredibly small and uses arrows to make selections, so we recommend only using this printer through your computer for higher convenience.
This printer is capable of print speeds up to 30 pages for minute when using regular paper sizes, though is quite efficient with the legal sizes as well. Automatic double-sided printing is incredibly simple: all you have to do is set double-sided in your computer settings before printing and the printer will flip the pages for you directly inside the machine.
I love this little printer. It doesn’t connect to the Wi-Fi but I always have my laptop plugged in anyways. It is very quick to print, really crisp, and very affordable. It has double sided printing that doesn’t require and is very simple to reload with paper or fix a jam if it ever occurs. The toner lasts forever which is great and this printer is very durable.
Terry Y.
At only 15 lbs, this compact Brother printer is ideal for dorm rooms, home offices, and other cramped areas that don’t have room for a large machine. This is a very effective printer if all you need to do is print, though it does not have any scan or copy functionality and is not suited to a home office setting unless you’re willing to purchase separate machines for those other purposes. You’re also limited to black and white or grayscale printing, so if you want colourful graphs or photos, this is not the right printer for you.

What We Think of the Lexmark C2325DW Wireless Colour Laser Printer
The Lexmark wireless colour laser printer is compact and less expensive than many other colour laser printer options, though it does not scan or copy. This printer can connect to your computer via a local USB connection or you can connect your other devices via Wi-Fi if you would enjoy being able to print from any room in your home or corner of your office.
The display is quite small and is not super easy to set up for wireless connections, but it has extra security features in place to protect your documents when transferring wirelessly as well as during printing. You can print up to 25 pages per minute with this colour printer and won’t have to refill the paper tray until you’ve gone through 500 sheets, double what most other printers can handle. This printer is quite heavy at 45 lbs, a surprisingly heavy weight considering it does not have extra functions and doesn’t take up too much space.
This printer produces very nice colour and is fairly quiet as far as printers are concerned. I used to have to throw out ink from it drying out so this has been a game changer for me. It prints quickly for a colour printer and has a smaller footprint than most other colour printers. It was easy to set up and has been very reliable.

You can print up to 5000 pages monthly using this Lexmark printer and can print sheets as large as legal size when needed. The small display is a bit easier to use than many other small displays since it has a few extra buttons beyond up and down arrows, but the screen is still quite difficult to read. The cartridges on this printer are not refillable so you will have to spend a bit more on brand new cartridges each time they run out. The real disappointment with this printer is that you much purchase a separate adapter to be able to use the Wi-Fi function, so calling it network-ready and wireless is a bit misleading.

Considering that this printer isn’t wireless without an adapter and doesn’t scan or copy as well, it’s a bit overpriced. However, it does offer great colour and has a large tray capacity with integrated security features to protect your documents.

The printing quality from this Brother printer exceeded my expectations right away. It is very quick and gives crisp pages. Set-up is very straightforward though a bit time consuming if doing the Wi-Fi connection since you have to put in your password using the arrows. All in all, very easy to set up and use, great quality for a great price.

What We Think of the Brother HL-L5200DW Wireless Laser Printer
This boxy Brother printer is incredibly versatile and can handle more media print types than most other printers out there. With this larger machine, you can print card stock, envelopes, regular sized paper, legal sized paper, and labels, making it a great choice for multi-functional offices or varied home use. This printer prints in black and white but offers great grey-scale in case you need to show different colours as a last resort.
The paper tray capacity is a bit larger than usual at 300 pages, allowing you to go a bit longer between instances of “oh crap, I’m out of paper” in your daily routine. This printer has an impressive print speed of 42 pages per minute, making it the fastest on our list and perfectly suited to impatient users or fast-paced workplace environments.
This printer is entirely no fuss. It is easy to set up and doesn’t have any of the complicated bells and whistles that are usually unnecessary. It has a small footprint and has great printing quality no matter what you’re printing on, be it paper or labels. I run a business from my home and have found this printer to be invaluable.

This printer can connect wirelessly through your Wi-Fi network, through an ethernet cable, or through the old-school USB local connection. However, this printer is quite expensive given that it does not print in colour and does not have any extra functionality such as a scanning or copying feature. It is also larger than many other models with equal functionality, but is still the ideal choice if speed is more important than anything else.

Things to Know Before Buying a Laser Printer
What Are the Benefits of a Laser Printer?
Laser printers are superior to inkjet printers in a number of ways.
- They are much faster than inkjet printers
- Each cartridge of toner lasts much longer than an ink cartridge and are less of a hassle to replace when needed
- Laser printers are known for precise, high-quality printing with finer detail
- They are more economical to run in the long-term since toner is more affordable and lasts longer
- Increased productivity with higher-end models that can print 100-200 pages per minute
- They are great for high-volume printing
- They produce high-quality prints on low-quality paper
How do Laser Printers Work?
Laser printers use toner rather than ink to create text and images on your paper. They operate very similarly to photocopiers, but the laser writes the text from scratch rather than copying the original document. The data transmitted by your computer controls a laser beam that gets ink on the page by heating the powder to a melting point. The laser beam scrolls back and forth across a drum inside the printer to produce static electricity. The electricity attracts the toner in the pattern determined by your text, and then the fuser unit bonds the toner to the paper.
How to Properly Choose Your Laser Printer
- Price.
The price of your laser printer is largely determined by the type of output it is capable of; colour laser printers are much more expensive than monochrome options. If you want a model that scans and copies as well as prints, you should expect to pay a bit more as well. If you’re looking for a basic monochrome laser printer, you can find great options at a low price.
- Paper Capacity.
The capacity of the paper tray isn’t a super important factor, but it may become annoying to constantly have to fill up a smaller tray if you print hundreds or thousands of pages per week. Most printers average a 250-page capacity of regular or legal paper, but some can go as high as 900 or more. for casual home printing, 250 is excellent, but home businesses or office settings will do better with a larger capacity
- Print Speed.
The print speed refers to how quickly your printer can print a page, or how many pages they can print per minute. The average is between 30 and 35 pages per minute, though some faster printers can reach 40 or 42 pages per minute. If you’re choosing a colour printer, you should expect a slightly lower print speed than a monochrome printer.
- Colour or Black and White.
Choosing between a colour laser printer and a basic black and white laser printer is one of the most important considerations to be made. For most applications, a monochrome printer is ideal, but if you need to print flyers, labels, presentations, graphs, graphics, or photos, you’ll need a colour laser printer.
- Extra Functions.
Printers that can scan, copy, and fax are known as all-in-one printers. Many printers nowadays can scan and copy, but fax is a much rarer included function since only medical or legal applications typically rely on fax machines. You should expect to pay a little extra for these functions, but they can be invaluable for home businesses or office settings.
- Print Media Types.
Most printers can handle regular paper as well as legal sized paper, but higher-end models can print labels, photos, and other media types for a wider range of applications. A more versatile machine is useful but not worth the money if you don’t plan on printing things other than regular paper very often.
- Connectivity Options.
More and more laser printers are becoming wireless, and if you don’t want to plug in to your printer every time you need to print something, a wireless printer is definitely a great option. Most printers include USB connections as well as an ethernet connection if setting up wireless seems too complicated and you don’t want the hassle.
- Size.
Depending on where you plan on placing your printer, you may need a small model. For home printing purposes, a smaller, lightweight printer is probably ideal so it can fit on a shelf or on your desk. If you’re purchasing a printer for an office setting, a larger printer with greater functions will be more convenient.
