Not all dogs are equally mobile, whether due to injury, old age, or size. A ramp designed specifically for your pet can make it easier for them to get into a vehicle safely without jumping, climb up into your bed for nighttime snuggles, or get down the back porch stairs for potty breaks.
No matter why your dog requires help, a ramp is an easy-to-use solution to ensure your pooch is protected against impact injuries from jumping and that they can maintain their freedom and mobility without being lifted from place to place.
While all dog ramps may appear quite similar, there are a few important design features to think about when choosing a ramp for your furry friends.
It should be easy to set up and take down quickly as needed, should be sturdy and stable when your pup stands, walks, or runs up and down it, and shouldn’t take up too much space when not needed.
To help you pick the right ramp for your household, we analyzed 24 products and 876 consumer reviews over 27 hours to find the best dog ramps in Canada.
Following our last update, our top pick is the PetSafe 62305 Solvit Deluxe Telescoping Pet Ramp since it is incredibly easy to use, is portable, is incredibly sturdy for larger breads, and is equally affordable and high-quality.

What We Think of the PetSafe 62305 Solvit Deluxe Telescoping Pet Ramp
The PetSafe telescoping ramp is one of the most innovative options on the market. Instead of a traditional foldable design, this sliding ramp is both much simpler to store and it is height adjustable. This is one of the only ramps on the market that boasts this feature, and it can come in very useful for owners who will be using the ramp in a variety of ways.
This ramp is 17” wide to allow dogs to feel safe while using it, and the length can be extended from 39” all the way to 72”. No matter where you are using it, this ramp will create a safe incline for your dog. It weighs only 13 lbs as well, so it is very easy to set up and carry around without breaking a sweat. Its aluminium build creates this strong but lightweight combination.
Buying this dog ramp was the best thing I ever did for my aging golden retriever. He absolutely loves going for car rides, but I’ve noticed he’s been struggling a bit lately to get in and out of my SUV. This dog ramp allows him to walk up leisurely without putting any pressure on his joints, and I love that it’s adjustable to use with my wife’s raised truck too.

This dog ramp has an impressive 400 lb capacity to accommodate any breed of dog no matter how heavy. Your 300 lb mastiff won’t ever have to sit at home again. You may need to invest in some extra grip support for your pooch, as the one built into this ramp still has some dogs slipping. However, the sides are elevated to prevent falls and there is safety latch to keep the ramp closed when not in use. All in all, this ramp has some of the best durability and adjustability of all the ramps out there.

PetSTEP 66222 Folding Pet Ramp Video Review
What We Think of the PetSTEP 66222 Folding Pet Ramp
PetSTEP’s folding ramp has one of the most impressive weigh capacities we’ve seen at a staggering 500 lbs. No matter how large your dog is, it will be incredibly secure on this ramp. You could even have two on it at the same time (though we don’t recommend it) and the ramp would not buckle. Add in a ridged rubber surface and raised edges and you’ve got one of the safest dog ramps currently available.
This ramp is 70” long unfolded and 17” wide, making it suitable for both tall and short vehicles. No matter how far the dog needs to climb, the length of this ramp will keep the incline fairly gradual. This is especially important for nervous dogs who still feel unsteady and need some extra encouragement. The polypropylene/fibreglass construction makes this ramp very easy to clean and highly durable. No amount of adventuring will degrade the quality of this ramp.
This pet ramp has been a life changer for my dogs. I have a great dane and a mastiff cross, so I needed a ramp that would support both of them at the same time since they love to run down it basically on top of each other. This ramp is beyond sturdy and the material is great for slip resistance. I am very happy with this purchase, it’s worth the extra money.
Ina L.
In its folded state, this ramp has two handles available to make carrying much easier. It weighs less than 20 lbs too, so essentially anyone will be able to carry and set up this ramp with ease. We greatly appreciate the 5 year warranty that comes with this ramp; when a company has that much confidence in their product, you know you can too.

The Affordable Choice
PetSafe
If you have a lower budget but don’t want to sacrifice on quality, the PetSafe Solvit UltraLite Bi-Fold Pet Ramp is the affordable choice you want to make. It offers a lightweight design with a weight capacity that can accommodate many dog breeds, so is sure to be a good fit for most dog owners.
PetSafe Solvit UltraLite Bi-Fold Pet Ramp Video Review
What We Think of the PetSafe Solvit UltraLite Bi-Fold Pet Ramp
There is no better budget-friendly dog ramp on the market than this bi-fold ramp from PetSafe. A 62” length allows it to accommodate any height of vehicle with ease, and without a crazy steep incline that would send even the bravest dogs running in the opposite direction. The ramp is 16” wide, so while not the largest out there, it is still wide enough to safely accommodate all dogs, even ones who don’t have the straightest forward paths.
A 150 lb weight capacity makes this ramp unsafe for very large dogs, but most will find this ramp very sturdy and will greatly enjoy using it. The non-slip surface and elevated sides acting as guard rails will further increase the safety and security of your pet while they are making use of the ramp. It is foldable to make storage easy when not in use, and it is compact enough to fit in the car for travel and use at the other end of the trip.
I will admit I was hesitant about purchasing the cheapest dog ramp I could find, because I still want my dogs to be safe. Now I know I really had nothing to worry about with PetSafe. This ramp easily accommodates my 120 lb dog and it even has guard rails to keep her safe while she’s walking in and out of my car. I won’t ever go with another brand now!
Charlie N.
One of the greatest things about this ramp is that it weighs only 10 lbs. No matter your physical characteristics or how tired you may be at the end of exercising with your dog, this ramp will always be easy to carry and set up/take down. Really, the only downside to this ramp is that its length is not adjustable, but with the rest of its great features, this is an easy blip to look past.

The Bedroom Alternative
PetSafe
If you have small dogs that struggle to jump on to the bed, or larger dogs that are ageing and need some help getting onto the bed, the PetSafe 62399 CozyUp Bed Ramp will make a great addition to your home. This ramp is sturdy enough to accommodate most dog breeds and still won’t become and eye sore.

What We Think of the PetSafe 62399 CozyUp Bed Ramp
When it comes to indoor pet ramps, it doesn’t really get better than the PetSafe 62399 CozyUp Bed Ramp. It has a high quality wood frame and overall design that is aesthetically pleasing and will not detract from a room’s décor. It has a carpet surface to be comfortable for pet feet while simultaneously preventing slips and falls. The carpet is sewn in to prevent it from slipping around or eventually falling off.
This ramp does require some assembly, but within 20 minutes you will have a beautiful and useful pet ramp that your animals can start using right away. This bed ramp is not foldable, so you should only purchase it if you have a large storage space for it or you intend on leaving it out 24/7. Since it will be used every day by your animals, we expect this not to be a deterrent for most people.
I am so happy my husband and I decided to buy this ramp for our dogs. We have two little Pomeranians that cannot jump onto our bed, but they love sleeping with us. Instead of us needing to pick them up and put them down each day, they can get up easily on their own with this PetSafe ramp. Such a great decision, I won’t ever leave small dogs without a ramp again!
Tina P.
This ramp can safely hold dogs up to 120 lbs, so while it is more limiting than many of the other dog ramps we investigated, it can still support many dog breeds. We enjoy that there is a platform at the top so the dogs can safely get on and off the ramp without balancing on an inclined surface. The one flaw we found with this ramp is that the bottom does not have rubber grips. If you are using this on an uncarpeted floor, you will need to put it on a rug or buy some grips to prevent it from sliding around.

Presentation of the Pet Gear PG9300DR Tri-Fold Ramp
The Compact Alternative
Pet Gear
If you are someone who has limited storage space or simply doesn’t like looking at a big ramp taking up half your vehicle, the Pet Gear PG9300DR Tri-Fold Ramp is the ramp best suited to you. With three total segments, this ramp folds up into a smaller package than others, making it perfect for small spaces.
What We Think of the Pet Gear PG9300DR Tri-Fold Ramp
Since most pet ramps are either free standing or have a bi-fold design, we thought we’d introduce you to an alternative; the tri-fold. This design style has its own unique benefit of being extremely compact, and especially during camping trips, space can most definitely become an issue. This tri-fold ramp by Pet Gear folds up tightly to make packing and storage much easier than with other dog ramp models.
This model weighs 26 lbs so is a bit heavier than some others, but it is still lightweight enough for most capable individuals to move it around without strain. It is durably made to be supportive for dogs up to 200 lbs; this weight limit is more inclusive than some others and makes this ramp an option for a wider demographic. In its folded state, there is a comfortable handle to make carrying less of a chore.
I have no complaints about this Pet Gear ramp! It handles my large dogs very easily, and my little dog has no trouble getting up it either. I pack a pretty full car when camping, so it is really awesome that this ramp folds up so tightly. Otherwise, I’d never get it in the car! It is a bit heavier than my last ramp, but that’s not a big deal.
Rebecca J.
This ramp is 71” long in its unfolded state and is a couple inches wider than comparable ramps at 19.5”. Both of these dimensions increase the feeling of security for a dog and makes this ramp a great choice for owners of more worried dogs. Since this ramp does fold twice, there is a tether strap attached to ensure that it will stay closed when you need it to.

Overall, the Pet Gear PG9300DR Tri-Fold Ramp is the ideal option for everyone who needs a tighter fold and smaller footprint during storage. The Versatile Alternative
Pet Gear
If you are searching for a pet ramp that can be used both indoors and outdoors, look no farther than the Pet Gear PG9955CH Free Standing Ramp. This ramp can help your dogs get into vehicles and get up on the bed, and it is designed to be lightweight. Wherever your dog needs to go, this ramp will help him get there.
What We Think of the Pet Gear PG9955CH Free Standing Ramp
Pet Gear’s free standing ramp is one that we are quite impressed by. It offers all the features you expect from both a regular foldable ramp and a traditional non-folding free standing ramp. It is one of the few free standing ramps that is indeed foldable, which makes it perfect for travelling use as well. It folds to a very compact form and is easy to set up again when needed.
The length of this ramp is not ideal at only 56”. A longer ramp is generally better because it reduces the angle of incline, making the climb more comfortable for dogs. If you have a nervous dog, this may not be a great option for you. However, this ramp does have a special traction system that may make the difference. It comes with a supertraX mat which works on a pressure system; the harder a dog pushes, the more grip they have.
I am a big fan of this free standing ramp. I keep it beside the bed usually to help my older Beagle get up to her favorite sleeping place, but for the occasional trip to the vet or dog park, this ramp is incredibly helpful for getting her in and out of the car. She has some health issues that make carrying her uncomfortable for her, so I love that I don’t need to pick her up to travel anymore.
Thomas L.
We love that the supertraX mat is removable; this makes cleaning very easy to avoid a build up of mess in your vehicle. At 17 lbs, this ramp is easy for anyone to move around, and it can support dogs up to 200 lbs in weight. Our only other minor complaint about this ramp is that its edges are not raised. With the supertraX mat, dogs should not be slipping, but guard rails would make us feel more comfortable.

Pet Gear PG9955CH Free Standing Ramp Pros and Cons

Overall, this free standing ramp by Pet Gear is one of the most versatile options on the market today. It can be used easily indoors or outdoors to help your pet get wherever they need to go. Although it is lacking in a few areas, it is still a high quality option ideal for many dog owners.
Presentation of the Pet Gear TL9000GRSX Travel Lite Ramp
The Lightweight Alternative
Pet Gear
If you are looking for a lightweight, portable dog ramp for your vehicle, the Pet Gear TL9000GRSX Travel Lite Ramp is the one you want. With the lightest but shortest design we’ve seen, this Pet Gear model is made for quick use at relatively low heights.
What We Think of the Pet Gear TL9000GRSX Travel Lite Ramp
This is another Pet Gear ramp that has a supertraX mat installed. This is one of the safest possible surfaces for dogs to walk on as the grip integrity increases with more pressure. In essence, the grip strength is tailor made to each dog that walks across it. Combine the mat with a durable build and you’ve got a ramp that will make any dog feel secure and comfortable using it.
This ramp has a bi-fold design and will be very easy to store and keep in the car without it taking up too much space. It weighs only 7 lbs too, so children and seniors would also be able to make use of this ramp without fear of injury or strain. This is one of the shorter ramps with a length of only 42”, so it cannot feasibly be used for tall vehicles. The incline would simply be too steep to be safe for dogs, so keep this in mind before you make a decision.
I am a huge fan of this Pet Gear ramp. I use it at the side door of my SUV and the angle is perfect for my dogs to get in and out. While I don’t have the tallest vehicle, my small dogs still struggle jumping up on their own, and they have quite a bit of fun on the ramp. I am very pleased with my purchase decision and recommend this product for others too.
Randi W.
A 200 lb weight limit makes this ramp usable by most dogs. Although the largest dogs will unfortunately not be able to make use of this ramp, it is still inclusive enough to accommodate nearly every dog breed. There aren’t many over 200 lbs after all. In its folded state, there is a handle to make portability an easier, more comfortable task. With a very reasonable price, this ramp can become a great addition to any household.

Overall, the Pet Gear TL9000GRSX Travel Lite Ramp is designed to be lightweight and easily portable. Since it is quite a bit shorter than a standard ramp, it is best used at low heights to keep the incline fairly gradual. If you have low height requirements and want something lightweight, it won’t get better than this model.

The Durable Alternative
Weathertech
Some pet ramps get easily scratched or worn out, and others aren’t suited to the outdoors at all. If you are interested in purchasing a dog ramp that can hold up to frequent use, all weather conditions, and any breed of dog, the WEATHERTECH 8AHR1DG pet ramp is the ideal choice.
WEATHERTECH 8AHR1DG Pet Ramp Video Review
What We Think of the WEATHERTECH 8AHR1DG Pet Ramp
This 16 lb pet ramp from WEATHERTECH is designed for use all year round with dogs of any kind. With a 300 lb weight limit, every breed of dog no matter how large will be secure and safe while using this ramp. The non-slip surface provides excellent traction for large and small paws, and all of the materials that make up this pet ramp are incredibly durable and resistant to wear and tear, as well as weather damage.
To make this pet ramp more user-friendly, it can be folded in half to take up less space during storage and transport. While this is a bulkier model and will be more cumbersome to get setup, you’ll appreciate the durability and sturdiness this design provides. A handle is cut into the ramp so you can easily carry it in one hand while keeping your dog safe with the other hand.
I do a lot of hiking with my two German short-haired pointers all year round, so we are constantly exposed to mud or snow. Since they are bigger dogs I want to protect their joints getting in and out of my truck from a young age. This ramp is super easy for both of them to use, they picked it up really well. It is great to hose down when we get home too, and so far it still looks brand new.
john f.
The unique design of the rubber grips on each end of this pet ramp are incredibly useful for protecting your vehicle from scratches and preventing the ramp from sliding in any direction while your pet is using it. This will help them feel more secure and therefore more inclined to keep using the ramp. Smaller individuals may have a harder time setting it up, but others can do so single-handedly.

Overall, the WEATHERTECH 8AHR1DG pet ramp is one of the best on the market for longevity. Both the frame and traction surface are designed to withstand frequent use, and it won’t be damaged if it gets knocked around during travel. It isn’t the smallest ramp out there, but it can go the distance.
Presentation of the Chasing Tails Dog Ramp
The Small-Dog Alternative
Chasing Tails
If you need an indoor dog ramp for your furry friend, but you want something designed with small dogs in mind, the Chasing Tails dog ramp is right for you. It has a low weight capacity suited to small/medium sized dogs, and all the necessary features to keep the smaller canines safe in their transitions.
Chasing Tails Dog Ramp Video Review
What We Think of the Chasing Tails Dog Ramp
This wooden dog ramp by Chasing Tails is one of our favorites for all the households with smaller canines out there. It weighs 16 lbs so is pretty easy to move around when needed, and it collapses flat to make portability and storage that much easier. The guard rails are removable to make those two processes even easier. While this unit doesn’t fold in the traditional sense, it isn’t as long as most dog ramps either.
With a weight limit of only 70 lbs, it is imperative that it be used with small or medium sized dogs only. Larger dogs have the potential to break the ramp and hurt themselves. Heavier dogs at the top of the weight capacity may also find that the non-slip surface doesn’t provide enough traction to keep them from slipping entirely, so you should pay close attention to your dog while they use it for the first week or so.
I didn’t pay attention to the weight limit of this ramp, so I was really happy that my 65 lb bulldog Stitch was still able to use it safely. The design is really nice, it is really easy to fit the height to the bed or couch, and Stitch uses it readily now. The guard rails give me a lot of peace of mind that he won’t misstep and fall off accidentally. He’s slipped on it a few times, but nothing frequent or drastic.
emma w.
One of the best things about this ramp is its adjustability. There are 6 pre-set heights to choose from between 10” and 20” high, so you should be able to adjust easily to lower beds and couches. If you have higher furniture, the dogs may still have a small jump to make, but it is still much better for them to manage the floor to couch transitions with the ramp. The high guard rails are an extra safety feature we admire.
Chasing Tails Dog Ramp Specifications

- Weight: 16 lbs

Chasing Tails Dog Ramp Pros and Cons
Pros
Pros
- Has high guard rails to prevent dogs from falling or jumping off the side
- Guard rails are removable and unit collapses flat for storage/transport
- Height is adjustable to 6 different pre-sets
Cons
Cons
- More expensive than comparable products
- Low weight capacity
- Non-slip surface is not always effective, may still have heavier dogs slipping
Our Final Opinion About the Chasing Tails Dog Ramp
Quality 5.0 out of 5.0 stars Effectiveness 4.0 out of 5.0 stars Design 3.0 out of 5.0 stars Price 4.0 out of 5.0 stars
Overall, the Chasing Tails dog ramp is one of the best products out there for small and medium dogs. The high guard rails ensure safety and the adjustable height ensures dogs have access to the furniture they can’t reach on their own. You’ll avoid its limitations by sticking to the weight recommendation.

Things to Know Before Buying a Dog Ramp
Benefits of a Dog Ramp
Dog ramps are one of the best products out there designed for dog safety. They can be used essentially anywhere: stairs on a deck or RV, any size of vehicle, at bedsides, for grooming tables, and anywhere else your dog may need to reach an elevated surface. Dog ramps can both protect your vehicle from scratches while dogs scramble in, and it also prevents the hard impact on your dog’s joints from jumping out of tall vehicles. This is especially important for older dogs who begin to lose their mobility. If you end up lifting your heavy dog into vehicles, a dog ramp will also save you some effort and make adventures much easier.
How to Properly Choose Your Dog Ramp
- Price.
At its lowest price, a standard dog ramp will cost you about $100. More expensive ramps run between $150 and $200, so there isn’t too much variability here. However, the price will be affected by the material and durability of the ramp as well as some extra features, so the extra money may be worth it to you depending on how you will be using it.
- Length.
The length of non-free standing ramps will affect how steep the angle is for your dog to climb. Some dogs will be confident on ramps and will be comfortable using shorter models. However, some dogs may be nervous and would benefit from a longer ramp to make the climb more gradual.
- Weight Capacity.
The weight capacity of the dog ramp you is one of the most important features, especially for owners of larger dogs. It is essential that your dog does not exceed the weight limit as this can be very dangerous and may end in injury. The majority of dog ramps have a weight capacity between 100 and 200 lbs, but some go up as high as 400-500 lbs. If you have a very heavy dog, you’ll need to invest in a more capable ramp.
- Material.
The frame material of the dog ramp will affect its weight, durability, strength, and cost. Higher quality materials will support more weight and be more durable, but they will also generally be heavier and more expensive. However, some materials like aluminum are both strong and lightweight, so there are ways to get around that trade off.
- Safety Features.
Many dog ramps have a few safety features to minimize the risk to your dog. All ramps will have some sort of non-slip surface, but not all materials are created equal. Many dog ramps also have elevated sides to act as guard rails to prevent an accidental slip off the side. Thirdly, quite a few foldable dog ramps have tethers or safety latches to ensure they cannot unfold on their own during travel or transport.
- Ease of Storage.
Foldable dog ramps will be the easiest to store. Some can fold in half and others have a trifold design; trifold ramps will end up the most compact and are therefore easiest to store. Free standing ramps generally cannot fold at all, so these are best used in places where they can remain in one spot, such as beside a bed or grooming table for example.
- Weight.
The weight of the dog ramp will affect how easy they are to carry and setup. Some ramps are as light as 7 lbs whereas others weigh close to 30 lbs. The frequency with which you’ll be using the ramp and your physical capabilities are two factors that you should consider when deciding on the best ramp weight for you.
- Adjustability.
Adjustability will be a huge factor for people using their ramps in a variety of different settings. Some models of non-free standing ramps have the ability to adjust the length of it. For shorter heights, a smaller length will be sufficient to allow a dog to get into a vehicle. However, if the dog will also need to get into a tall vehicle, the extended length on the ramp will reduce the angle of incline and make it easier for the dog to climb.
- Warranty.
The warranty coverage offered by the company is something you should consider, especially when looking at a more expensive model. The last thing you want to be responsible for is replacing a brand new dog ramp if it is defective and breaks right away, so we always recommend looking for at least a year of warranty protection.
