The Krups spice and coffee grinder is priced the way it is because it is a manual, steel blade grinder. The interior blade sits in the hopper to grind your coffee beans. The manual button must be held down to grind the beans, and the longer you hold it, the finer your grind becomes. While this might sound fine, it prevents the consistency that some coffee drinkers require from their grounds and you’ll end up with some coarser grounders and some fine powdery grounds all at once.
However, this is a flaw with all blade grinders and not this unit, so you shouldn’t hold that against it if looking for a cheaper blade grinder. As for spices, this Krups machine performs surprisingly well with all types of dry spices including pepper, cinnamon, and coriander. The steel blade can handle any spice or coffee bean, but it can’t be removed, making cleaning a bit of a pain in the rear and perhaps the fingers as well.
This coffee grinder is the best, but it surely does the grind. It grinds your spices to your desired consistency; the longer you hold the button, the finer the grind gets. That being said, it is more difficult to clean this grinder effectively since the blade isn’t removable. The grind is also a bit lopsided if your beans don’t mix and move like they should.

This grinder is fully automatic and allows you to set a timer from 5 to 20 seconds depending on the dose of coffee grounds you need for your morning caffeination ritual – a sacred ritual, in fact. The timer automatically shuts off the burrs when you have enough coffee waiting in the grounds bin so you don’t have any extra that will sit and lose its flavour waiting for you to drink it.
Overall, I am very pleased with this Bodum Bistro grinder, which is worlds ahead of my last blade grinder. The grind is even and consistent with this machine and it is relatively quiet for a burr grinder.
