VTech DM221 Audio Baby Monitor Video Review

What We Think of the VTech DM221 Audio Baby Monitor

There are a lot of great things to note about this VTech baby monitor. As long as you aren’t looking for video monitoring, there likely won’t be anything that displeases you either. This is a dual-monitor system, meaning you leave one monitor with the baby, and carry another with you. To help you move more freely around the house, there is a belt clip attached for hands-free monitoring.

With a 1000 ft range, you should be able to monitor your baby from anywhere in or around your home, as long as you don’t have an absolutely massive home or yard. There is no white noise emitted when sound comes through, as is common with analog monitors, so you can rely on great quality audio at all times. Since it lasts 16 hours on a charge, you won’t have the fear of a dead battery interrupting your day.

I am very pleased with this baby monitor. I like the traditional style of two monitors, rather than using an app, and I don’t mind the lack of video monitoring. I really just need to know if my baby is crying or not when I’m in other areas of the house. The sound comes through really clearly, and I haven’t had any problems with the range so far either. I’d recommend it, for sure.

hannah r..

One of the great things about this baby monitor is the two-way intercom. When your baby is crying, you have the opportunity to speak to your child without being in the room, helping to soothe them quickly. When you need to keep the monitor muted, the 5 level sound indicator will help you see if and how loud your baby is crying. The nightlight built in to the baby’s half of the system will automatically shut off after 15 minutes of quiet, to help your baby sleep soundly.

What We Think of the Hellobaby HB32 Video Baby Monitor

This Hellobaby monitor is full of all the necessary features you’d look for in any quality baby monitor, but it has a number of design elements that put it in a class all of its own. This 1.1 lb baby monitor has a range of 960 ft, and while this is less than some other models, it is still adequate for most homes. With excellent quality video and audio footage relay, you’ll be able to keep an eye and ear on your baby at all times.

While the viewing angle of the camera itself is fairly narrow, the 360 degree pan feature allows you to get full video access to the entire room if you ever need it. The HD video is high-quality enough to give you the perfect image of your child’s space. It is important to keep in mind that this is a handheld monitor that you carry around with you; there is no app for viewing on your smartphone.

The video quality of Hellobaby’s HB32 monitor is out of this world. Day and night, we can see our little girl as clear as I imagine is possible. We never have to worry about losing the connection, so we can see her wherever we are in the house. We have two cameras synced up to it for more viewing options; we love that this monitor is multi-camera compatible.

david i.

One of the most unique things about this Hellobaby monitor is that the system can support up to three additional cameras on top of the one it comes with. This can help you set up in a number of different, rooms, or have a multi-angled view of one room alone. The preprogrammed lullabies and nightlight built into the baby’s monitor are two features you won’t want to do without.

Nanit Plus Wall-Mounted Smart Baby Monitor Video Review

What We Think of the Nanit Plus Wall-Mounted Smart Baby Monitor

Nanit’s wall-mounted baby monitor is one of the more innovative options we’ve gathered. It’s designed to sit on the wall above a crib, offering a bird’s eye view of your child that most other monitors cannot replicate. This eliminates blind spots and guarantees you won’t miss anything that your child is doing. Since the monitor is linked to a mobile app, the range of the system is unlimited. You will never be without access to your child if you choose this monitor.

The system offers HD video and audio to ensure there is never any image distortion or unintelligible sounds raising concern. The app offers a unique option of sleep tracking; parents with this monitor will know their baby’s sleep patterns better than any others. Two way audio is a great feature to have in a monitor because it allows you to comfort your baby (or tell a stubborn young child to get to sleep) without needing to enter the room.

I just had my third baby not too long ago. I had used different monitors for each of my first two children, and I wish I had had Nanit’s monitor for their early years as well. The placement of the camera high up on the wall eliminates blind spots in the crib, so I can be certain at all times that my baby is safe. The sleep tracking in the app is incredibly useful too.

Carly N.

Some of the best features of this monitoring system are the temperature and humidity sensors. This allows parents a great way of ensuring their baby is in a comfortable environment, and they will be able to make any necessary adjustments quickly. The biggest downside of Nanit’s smart monitoring system is the price tag that comes along with all the great features. While it will inevitably be a deterrent for some parents, those that choose this monitor will not be disappointed.

What We Think of the Vtech DM111 Safe and Sound Digital Audio Baby Monitor

Vtech’s DM111 Safe and Sound baby monitor is one of the top choices available on the market. It offers audio monitoring only; those who want video will need to keep shopping, but for those happy with audio only supervision, this monitor has so much to offer. It weighs only 1.1 lbs so is easy to carry anywhere in the home, and it also can be carried handsfree with the belt clip attachment.

This handheld monitor has 5 volume levels and the set comes in a crisp white color. This monitor is battery powered so can be placed anywhere in the baby’s room; no annoying cord gets in the way to limit your placement freedom. The range on this monitor is top of the line; at 1500 ft, there is essentially nowhere you could go on your property that would affect your connection to your baby. An out-of-range indicator ensures you will never purposely lose that connection entirely.

My husband and I could not be happier with this monitor by Vtech. No matter where we are in our very large home, the audio quality never falters. This monitor makes me feel really secure about leaving my baby alone in his room. A lot of people want video footage now, but we are beyond satisfied with the quality of this device. I’d highly recommend it to everybody.

Charlene D.

On top of lacking video functionality, there are also no smart monitoring features built into this monitor. That means no temperature or humidity sensors, no tracking sleep patterns, and no alerts for unusual noise or activity. For all the parents out there who are comfortable with a camera-free monitoring system and prefer simple tech, we are certain you will find no fault with this Vtech baby monitor.

What We Think of the Owlet Baby Monitor Duo with Smart Sock

This baby monitor by Owlet is one of the most popular on the market. It is substantially smaller than others available, but the quality is superior to many other baby monitors. This monitor offers both video and audio supervision of your young child and weighs less than two pounds. A one year warranty ensures that if anything goes wrong, Owlet will support you and resolve the situation to your satisfaction.

This small baby monitor is jam packed with features we are certain will intrigue most parents. This monitor automatically switches over to night mode during the darker hours of the day to ensure that your view of your child is never compromised. The HD camera guarantees great quality video relay and the audio works on a two way system; not only can you hear your baby at all times, you can also talk to him/her wherever you are.

Owlet’s baby monitor was a gift I received at my baby shower. I’ve been using it for about three months now and I could not have picked out a better option (thanks mom). I absolutely love that I can see and hear my twin boys anywhere I go. The app makes everything so convenient even though it is a bit spotty at times. I highly recommend to new and experienced parents alike!

Jamie R.

There are a handful of features that really set this baby monitor apart. Although not entirely alone in this category, this monitor works off a Wi-Fi connection and a mobile app; this means that you don’t have to be in the home to keep an eye and ear on your precious little one. Owlet’s monitor is also equipped to track oxygen levels and heart rate; you can always be certain your baby is doing well even when you can’t physically check on them. If you have the budget for it, this baby monitor will exceed your expectations.

LaxiHub M1 Wi-Fi Baby Camera Video Review

What We Think of the LaxiHub M1 Wi-Fi Baby Camera

Laxihub’s M1 baby monitor is one of the lightest we found during our research. At only 0.7 lbs, this monitor can be placed anywhere and is beyond easy to transport if the need should arise. It is quite small for easy placement wherever it is needed. The camera is connected to a mobile app that ensures you will never be out of range. The only downside of such a connection is that it relies on Wi-Fi; if that service fails, you will no longer be able to use the monitor.

This camera-app combo has a few unique features that we are excited to share with you. First off, the app tracks patterns of your baby’s sleep. When any abnormal sound or movement is detected, a notification is sent to let you know. Movement sensitivity can also be adjusted to ensure the monitor is working exactly as is suited to your needs and preferences.

I think every parent out there should have this monitor installed in their baby’s room. The quality of both audio and video is amazing, I feel so comfortable doing chores around the house because I can keep an eye and ear on my son as long as I have my phone handy. It’s great that I get notified if anything abnormal is detected; peace of mind for dad’s like me is an incredible thing.

Bill W.

One of the best things about this monitor is that it is compatible with SD cards and cloud storage. With this capability, video footage can be stored for later viewing and reference. Laxihub put a lot of thought into this monitor and has provided parents with a monitoring system that does more than let you listen to your child. A feature rich baby monitoring system is the way to go for worry-prone parents; constant access to a video will provide a feeling of security that is priceless.

What We Think of the Vtech DM223 Safe and Sound DECT6.0 Baby Monitor

Vtech’s Safe and Sound baby monitor is one of the more traditional monitoring systems. There is no video functionality which may be a downside for some parents. For those moms and dads out there who are happy just to know when their child is restless, this monitor has some great features that make it an easy audio-only option.

The range of this monitoring system is 1000 ft, landing Vtech solidly in the most competitive group of baby monitor providers. The monitor also weighs only 1.2 lbs and is quite compact, making it an easy object to carry around the house and set down essentially anywhere. For people who have enough of white baby monitors, the silver exterior if this model will be a refreshing change.

This baby monitor by Vtech is one of the best things I own. It has great audio quality, it has a nightlight built in, and there is a low battery alert so I can be confident I will never lose my connection with my child. This monitor is great for people on a budget too; the quality is not limited because of its affordable price, trust me.

Francis E.

This baby monitor is great for nighttime because it has a built in nightlight to improve visibility in the room while making your child feel more secure. Its soft glow will not be enough to keep a baby awake, but it will provide some comfort. The parent unit has a vibrating sound alert function and a low battery alert to make certain the unit will not die without first preparing the parents. Rechargeable batteries make this monitor an eco-friendly and affordable choice.

What We Think of the Hellobaby HB50 Video and Audio Baby Monitor

Hellobaby’s HB50 video and audio baby monitoring system has a lot to offer parents. It follows the traditional baby monitor design of a handheld parent unit rather than a mobile app as is becoming more popular, but this monitor also offers video in addition to reliable audio. It is lightweight at only 1.2 lbs and is small enough to satisfy any portability requirement you have.

The audio system of this monitor is one of the better features; it is high quality and offers the option to speak to your baby without being in the room via two way audio functionality. The monitor enters night vision mode automatically once darkness hits to save you the hassle of manual adjustment or simply leaving you with poor video images. We like that the monitor runs on rechargeable batteries; great for the environment and your budget.

My favorite feature of this baby monitor is the two way audio. My little girl is starting to get fussy over sleep time, so being able to encourage her to go to bed without being in the room is a very useful thing. I love that I can also keep an eye on the temperature in the room and see her just as well at night as I can during the day. No complaints!

The one complaint we have about this monitor is the video quality. It is not up to our standards and was surprisingly poor considering the high quality audio in the same device. If a clear picture is not an important factor in your decision, this monitoring system is still a great option for you. If one of your must haves for your baby monitor is a video feed boasting high quality, one of the other monitors in this guide will be a better choice for you.

Lollipop Baby Monitor with True Crying Detection Video Review

What We Think of the Lollipop Baby Monitor with True Crying Detection

There are not many baby monitors out there that can claim the same high-quality standards and rich features as this Lollipop model. It offers both audio and video streaming to your smartphone app, so you can full access to your child’s well-being as long as you have your phone with you. The connection quality and range are dependent on your Wi-Fi strength, so make sure your services are good enough.

The baby monitor can last for 30 days in between charges, so battery-life will not be a worry for you. Three types of detection alerts can be activated (crying detection, noise detection, and crossing detection). Crossing detection will alert you if the child crosses the crib boundary by climbing out. You can customize these alerts and rely on its ability to distinguish between crying and other noises.

I am a big fan of this camera. It is able to distinguish crying form other noises, and the night vision is truly impressive. It’s really easy to set up, and it really is as versatile as its marketing suggests. You will need a monthly subscription to make use of all the app features, but I think it is worth the fairly insignificant cost. It offers me great peace of mind no matter where I am or how busy I am.

The app can support an unlimited number of cameras, and you can watch them simultaneously. There is also an audio mode that lets you listen to the rooms without keeping your phone screen on. Night vision, sound effects, and 2-way audio are additional features that add a luxurious feeling to this monitor. Throw in the ability to position the camera anywhere (flat surface, wall, or directly on the crib), and you’ve got a fairly flawless product on your hands.

Things to Know Before Buying a Baby Monitor

What Are the Benefits of Using a Baby Monitor?

There are numerous benefits to using a baby monitor while your child sleeps:

  • Using a monitor relieves anxiety and stress by allowing you to constantly monitor your baby
  • You won’t have to risk waking your baby by opening the door to check on them
  • You can watch your baby’s activities while in their crib to avoid panic over a new sound or false alarm
  • You can track how long it takes your child to fall asleep after you leave them in their crib
  • A temperature alarm will alert you if your baby goes out of range, such as if they’ve managed to climb out of their crib
  • If your baby has health troubles or defects, you can keep a lookout on them at all times and catch warning signs early
  • Night vision allows you to watch your baby without getting out of bed or turning on lights
  • They are extremely helpful with sleep training since you’ll be able to tell if your child is okay without entering the room and disrupting the process
  • If you need to step out of the room for a moment, you can watch your child play and ensure their safety from a distance
  • Many monitors use an app that lets you monitor your baby while they’re with a sitter or family member while you’re away from home
  • You can communicate with your baby via two-way talkback to keep your baby calm and feeling safe since they know you’re around
  • Video monitors often have the ability to record moments, such as yawns and giggles you don’t want to miss

How to Properly Choose Your Baby Monitor

  1. Price.

The price of a baby monitor varies greatly depending on whether you choose an audio monitor, video monitor, or a combination of both. If you’re looking for high-quality sound and picture, you should be willing to splurge a bit more. The price will also fluctuate depending on the sophistication of the device, though there are many budget-friendly monitors available as well.

  1. Audio/Video.

The biggest decision you need to make regarding your baby monitor is whether you want audio, video, or both. Many parents prefer to be able to see their child in the crib rather than only hear their cries if they wake up. If you’re looking for total peace of mind, choosing a monitor that offers both audio and video monitoring is the way to go.

  1. Smart Features.

Baby monitors today are much more advanced than they used to be. They can track sleep patterns, monitor heart rate, read oxygen levels, capture recordings, tilt, pan, and zoom, alert you to abnormal movements or sounds, activate lullabies and nightlights, and a lot more. Not all features come on all monitors, so stay on the lookout for a monitor that has the features which are important to you.

  1. Night Vision.

For video monitors, night vision is an essential feature to have since you’ll be watching your baby when they sleep and it will be dark in the room. The better the night vision on your monitor is, the more clearly you’ll be able to see your baby move and breathe.

  1. Placement.

Placement is pretty important when it comes to audio or video monitors. If it’s too far away, you won’t be able to hear or see your baby as well. If you can, choose a monitor that can be wall-mounted so you always have the ability to place the monitor close to the crib. Some monitors are designed to give you a birds-eye-view of the crib while others can only be placed on a dresser with a smaller range of view. Make sure you know where you’ll be placing the monitor before making your purchase.

  1. Monitoring Connection Type.

Many smart monitors nowadays work with an app on your phone rather than use the traditional parent monitor. Some baby monitors may also come with additional monitors that you can leave in separate rooms so you don’t need to always remember to carry your unit with you. Some handhelds may also include a clip for your pants or shirt so you can monitor your baby hands-free. Be sure to consider the range of the handhelds if using one instead of an app on your phone since you’ll be restricted by that range.

If you have twins then finding a reliable baby monitor can be quite challenging. There are many things to consider when finding the best baby monitor for your twins such as how far apart they sleep, what room temperature is ideal, and if they should be sleeping together or separate. You also need to take into consideration which monitor will fit your lifestyle and budget the best.
